Publisher's summary

A publishing event: number-one New York Times best-selling author Jan Karon returns - and invites her millions of fans to join her again in Mitford.

After five hectic years of retirement from Lord's Chapel, Father Tim Kavanagh returns with his wife, Cynthia, from a so-called pleasure trip to the land of his Irish ancestors. While glad to be at home in Mitford, something is definitely missing: a pulpit. But when he's offered one, he decides he doesn't want it. Maybe he's lost his passion.

His adopted son, Dooley, wrestles with his own passion - for the beautiful and gifted Lace Turner, and his vision to become a successful country vet. Dooley's brother, Sammy, still enraged by his mother's abandonment, destroys one of Father Tim's prized possessions. And Hope Murphy, owner of Happy Endings bookstore, struggles with the potential loss of her unborn child and her hard-won business.

All this as Wanda's Feel Good Cafe opens, a romance catches fire through an Internet word game, their former mayor hatches a reelection campaign to throw the bums out, and the weekly Muse poses a probing inquiry: Does Mitford still take care of its own?

Millions of fans will applaud the chance to spend time, once more, in the often comic and utterly human presence of Jan Karon's characters. Indeed, they have never been more sympathetic, bighearted, and engaging.

Excellent story and performance

Jan is a master at bringing us into the story and I can’t imagine a more suitable voice to capture the characters than John.

Comforting Read

As with all of Jan Karen’s books, this one is comforting, in that, even in the midst of drama and trauma, the overriding spirit is Hope. Thus, the reader is comforted. So very worth your time!

Thank goodness John McDonough is back

What did you love best about Somewhere Safe with Somebody Good?

The story is as good as the others in the Mitford series and having John McDonough back as the voice of Father Tim is the best part.

Have you listened to any of John McDonough’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Love his style. He portrays all of the characters well. You never have to guess which character is speaking and he is particularly identifiable in this series as Father Tim.

Jan K has created a LOT of fodder for more stories

Wish there was more interaction between the three older brothers. Wish Father Tim cried a little less. Still I love the Mitford stories.

Another charming listen!

Would you consider the audio edition of Somewhere Safe with Somebody Good to be better than the print version?

I love John McDonough as a narrator. He makes the story come alive and has a great sense of timing that enhances the charm and humor of Karon's books. He IS Father Tim!

What other book might you compare Somewhere Safe with Somebody Good to and why?

I would compare this book with Jan Karon's original. At Home in Mitford. It has all of the same charm and warmth. Each character is carefully crafted. I'm always eager to share another chapter of Father Tim's life.

Which character – as performed by John McDonough – was your favorite?

Venita Bentley was by far my favorite character. I looked forward to each column she wrote for the weekly Mitford Muse. Such a hoot!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

You're never too old to be someone's hero.

Any additional comments?

Delightful book. As a pastor of a small parish myself, I enjoy the look through Jan Karon's gentle and humorous eyes at the small town of Mitford and their beloved parish priest. I always feel more hopeful and inspired after a visit with Father Tim.

The Best in the Series!

What did you love best about Somewhere Safe with Somebody Good?

First, I am so excited to have another book in this series. Ms. Karon's novels are some of my favorite reads. This book is one of the best in the Mitford series. I love the depth of the characters. I love the way Ms. Karon uses the characters and the story to fill readers with an overwhelming sense of God's presence and His grace and mercy.

What did you like best about this story?

I really cannot say. The entire story is just so wonderful. Out of all the authors I read, I want another book from Jan Karon more than from any of the others.

Which scene was your favorite?

I loved the story line of Father Tim working in the bookstore and all of the lives he touched and the people he ministered to while working there.

Who was the most memorable character of Somewhere Safe with Somebody Good and why?

Lace! She is a beautiful and wise young woman in this book.

Any additional comments?

Excellent-- of course!

Every book in this series has been wonderful. While most series seem to reach a point where the author is just trying to rehash old material, Jan Karon uses the wonderful characters she has already included, develops them further, and introduces just a few new ones-- just like real life. I always think as I finish each book that it is her best, but then the next one is even better! This one is no exception. Don't miss it!
