Publisher's summary

Johnny Shooter was sentenced to hang at noon. But Judge Isaac Parker, widely known as the "Hanging Judge", made Johnny an offer he couldn't refuse. The judge made him a Deputy United State Marshal, then sent his new deputy after the worst-of-the-worst outlaws the Indian territory had to offer, with the orders not to burden the court by bringing them back for trial. Now, rumor has it that whenever outlaws gather around a campfire, the word is: "The only thing worse than standing before the Hanging Judge is hearing that Johnny Shooter is on your trail!"

A good story

I have enjoyed Dusty Rhodes books because he has no foul languages and overt sex scenes, he just tells a good story. The story in this book is a common theme for westerns. Johnny Shooter's family is killed by outlaws, he goes after them and kills them. He then is arrested found guilty and sentence to hang. In steps Judge Isaac Parker and releases him and makes him a U.S. Deputy Marshall and sends him out to catch or kill the bad guys. If he last 6 month the Judge will pardon him. Seems simple but Rhodes weaves and action packed story with some humor and love interest. Makes an easy listening story to make a change of pace from heavier reading or a busy life. Gene Engene voice is perfect for the narration of a western.

Enjoyable Listen

"....steaming hot cup of coffee.....folded his tired body into a chair....". I really enjoyed the narrator's voice and intonations. I feel like the narrator authentically knew the language of 1870's American West. Story was good with a satisfying ending. My favorite by this author and narrator is "Manhunter". I recommend "Shooter" but I highly recommend "Manhunter"

Good western and great reader

If you could sum up Shooter in three words, what would they be?

It is a nice historical fiction western. Everything you need, guns, outlaws, adventure, horses, and a woman.

What does Gene Engene bring to the story that you wouldn???t experience if you just read the book?

I've have been a fan of Gene Engene since the 1980's. He has the ability to make a bad book great.

This one is am A+

This is a better story than most of this genre.the narrator does an interesting job of ising different characters of both genders that I kept rooting for him to pull it off.

More "Latte" than "Cowboy" Coffee.

Characters rather 2-D, sterreotyped western. I couldn't find Clint Eastwood (Hang 'em High) anywhere in this book. As an 'Oater' it was 'good enough' and the Narrater was OK, too. I'll try some more Rhodes books, but not this winter. It seems more like a warm weather book to me.

Dusty Does It Again

The story started off a little slow, but the story gets better the longer that you listen.

Great!

Another exceptional book by the real author Dusty Rhodes and not a hack using his good name. Great story line where good prevails!

Narrator

Totally like Gene Eugene as a Narrator, number one in the Western category with the exception of the intoxicated characters...
