Publisher's summary

The thrilling new Virgil Flowers novel from the #1 New York Times best-selling author.

The superstore chain PyeMart has its sights set on a Minnesota river town, but two very angry groups want to stop it: local merchants, fearing for their businesses, and environmentalists, predicting ecological disaster. The protests don't seem to be slowing the project, though, until someone decides to take matters into his own hands.

The first bomb goes off on the top floor of PyeMart's headquarters. The second one explodes at the construction site itself. The blasts are meant to inflict maximum damage-and they do. Who's behind the bombs, and how far will they go? It's Virgil Flowers's job to find out... before more people get killed.

Critic reviews

“[Sandford]’s a thorough professional who knows exactly what he’s doing. Whether you’re new to Sandford or not, whether you’ve ever read a Virgil Flowers novel or not, once you start Shock Wave, you’ll read it straight through, quickly, compulsively, happy the whole time to be in such good hands.” (The Washington Post)

“Wry humor, a fully realized lead, and tense atmospherics...Sandford effortlessly conjures up the rhythms and personalities of a small town in one of his best outings to date.” (Publishers Weekly)

“If Shock Wave is any indication, Flowers has a better than even chance of equaling if not surpassing Davenport in the hearts and minds of Sandford’s legion of readers.” (Bookreporter)

Best Flowers yet

Having read all of Mr. Sandford's books this is to my mind the best of the Flowers books. I smiled, I laughed and, even shed a tear for his boat. Well written and well read.

Wasn't expecting the humor

I love John Sandford's Lucas Davenport series, and have also liked the Virgil Flowers books. Maybe because I haven't listened to any of the Flowers books lately, I was surprised by how much humor there was in this one. Eric Conger isn't reading this book, he's really performing it and his timing is perfect.

Fun with FLowers

there is nothing deep, nothing to be learned from a Virgil Flowers novel . The great intellectual challenge is remembering who's who. This book was a bit draggy, but like all the Flowers books, it was a lot of laughs!

Stop The Music!

Cannot stand the inane music played at the end of chapters! It is probably meant to build suspense for the story....instead it just makes me feel like stopping! But, I won't, just love that 'f$&n' Flowers!

Another entertaining Virgil Flowers saga

I was a little concerned about buying this audiobook when I read that some other Sandford fans didn't think it lived up to the other Virgil Flowers books. It isn't as intense and heavy a book as some of the others but Virgil is still Virgil. It's an entertaining story and it kept my interest all the way through. The narrator is very good and he does the funny bits very very well. The back-and-forth with the motel desk clerk named Thor is priceless. My only quibble is that I felt the storyline lost some of its believability toward the end and usually I find the Sandford plots and characters completely believable. Perhaps Sandford meant for Virgil to lose his edge a bit. If he did, then the next Flowers book will surely be a humdinger.

Once you do that, everything will be wonderful. Great book otherwise.

Outstanding

I hope the stories keep coming. Virgil is a very interesting character and I enjoy the story lines.

Keeping him "moving" while remembering to have him stop home and do his laundry is great!

Sandford remains the best

John Sandford remains my favorite author, and this book continues his tradition. With “That F’ing Flowers” as the protagonist this book is difficult to put down, and one has to love Sandford way with a phrase such as when Flowers is musing about if admiring a woman’s ass is cheating he says, “I know what Jimmy
Carter would say…aw F### him!”

This is one of those books that you just don’t want to end, can hardly wait for Sanford’s next.
