Publisher's summary

After discovering six gold Roman coins buried in the mud of the Devil's Dyke, Barnabas Sackett enthusiastically invests in goods that he will offer for trade in America. But Sackett has a powerful enemy: Rupert Genester, nephew of an earl, wants him dead. A battlefield promise made to Sackett’s father threatens Genester’s inheritance. So on the eve of his departure for America, Sackett is attacked and thrown into the hold of a pirate ship. Genester's orders are for him to disappear into the waters of the Atlantic. But after managing to escape, Sackett makes his way to the Carolina coast. He sees in the raw, abundant land the promise of a bright future. But before that dream can be realized, he must first return to England and discover the secret of his father's legacy.

Roadtrip

I listened to this story on a long drive and I was spellbound. It ends on a cliffhanger so I know what I will be listening to on my next journey!

Great book

Not the western genre that I was looking for like other books from this author. But still very well written and a great story.

A Great Adventure By Louis L’Amour

If you have not read a book by Louis L’Amore, you are in for a real treat and a great adventure with this first book in the Sackett series. I’ve listened to it twice as it conjures up the wonder of learning about people, exploring new lands, gaining knowledge and the trust of others, and being a contributor in society, blessing the lives of others as we would like to be treated! This is a great read. - JB

Great Historical Adventure

Sackett's Land is a wonderful adventure story. It is very different from most of the othe LL books I have read or listened to. Different BUT NOT bad -- it is a superb story of swashbuckling proportions. It is an audio book I had to listen to straight through!

LL really hit upon an area or subject of perpetual interest to me. It's a great story -- listen to it & enjoy!

An excellent beginning to a classic family saga

This is the first installment in the popular Sackett series. It's not a western, but it's an epic tale. The early Sackett history mirrors that of the Pilgrim fathers from Great Britain to the New World. It's full of history and adventure! I listen to this one repeatedly. A must-listen for all Sackett fans!

Great first book of a great series!

I love this series. It's a shame that he did not get to write all 40 books as he had planned.

It's a thoroughly enjoyable listen.

The dialect and pace was engaging. I love this Sackett starter story! Offers a different setting from the western genre he abides within.
