Publisher's summary

In 1836, when she was nine years old, Cynthia Ann Parker was kidnapped by Comanche Indians. This is the story of how she grew up with them, mastered their ways, married one of their leaders, and became, in every way, a Comanche woman. It is also the story of a proud and innocent people whose lives pulsed with the very heartbeat of the land. It is the story of a way of life that is gone forever.

An Absolute Favorite

I have read this book many times over the years. I’ve lost it, loaned it & replaced it, often. It’s been another 8 years or more since my last reading. As I’m recovering from shoulder surgery, I remembered the story & was excited to find it here on Audible. A nice treat to listen to it as I cannot read it, currently. The details & descriptions are written almost vividly & I find myself, easily experiencing the smells, the sounds & seeing the beautifully lived lives of the Comanche! A sure recommendation!

Great listen and read

When I first bought this book I didn't realize it was 30 hours. When I saw its length I bought the kindle version as well, thinking that is the only way I would get through it. Laurie Klein did such a great job narrating I ended up listening to most of it throughout the summer while mowing.
Ride the Wind is a great work of Historical Fiction, the author gives life to the time and its people.

Some things could be better

Liked the book but the narrator needs to find out how to pronounce certain words, like travois. It's not travwas but travoy. Good story anyway.

I love, love, love this story

In both print and Audible. I have read this book several times, but this is a first for me..listening to Laurie Klein narrating it. She is wonderful and her voice captures each character perfectly. It really is a beautiful love story that takes one deep into the Comanche way of life and I felt like I was a living with them. Robson doesn’t pull any punches so don’t expect unicorns and rainbows. Both Comanche and Texans are presented fairly. I knew the ending since this is historical fiction yet I still wept when hearing it..I wish it could have been a happily ever after but I truly believe that Wanderer and Nauduah’s spirits are riding together in their afterlife across the paradise of the Texas panhandle.

Exceptional in every way if a bit glamorized ...

Excellent narration. Very well written good dramatization of the Cynthia Ann Parker saga..probably a bit glamorized but well done.

My very favorite book!

This book keeps me captivated throughout the whole story. I would recommend this to anyone who loves the Indian culture or the wild west or Wagon Train days. Excellent book!

If you love Comanches, Texas, or the Old West...

A great story told from a different view. If you enjoy historical reads and/or Native American stories, then do yourself a favor and check this out!
