Publisher's summary

Sonnet Romano’s life is almost perfect. She has the ideal career, the ideal boyfriend, and has just been offered a prestigious fellowship. There’s nothing more a woman wants - except maybe a baby...brother?When Sonnet finds out her mother is unexpectedly expecting, and that the pregnancy is high risk, she puts everything on hold - the job, the fellowship, the boyfriend - and heads home to Avalon. Once her mom is out of danger, Sonnet intends to pick up her life where she left off. But when her mother receives a devastating diagnosis, Sonnet must decide what really matters in life, even if that means staying in Avalon and taking a job that forces her to work alongside her biggest, and maybe her sweetest, mistake - award-winning filmmaker Zach Alger. So Sonnet embarks on a summer of laughter and tears, of old dreams and new possibilities, and of finding the home of her heart.

At once heartbreaking and uplifting, Return to Willow Lake plumbs the deepest corners of the human heart, exploring the bonds of family, the perils and rewards of love, and the true meaning of home. Profoundly emotional and resonant, this is Susan Wiggs at her finest.

My first book for SW, but not the last!

This was my first book to this author. I am glad I listen to her work. She is such a good author. The story was sweet, the characters so charming, and it makes you feel good.
The narrator did a good job, though she is not one of my favorite contemporary narrators. She needs to work on her male voices and adding more animation to her performance. However, it did not lessen the quality of this excellent book. I am getting the rest of the series.

Another Great Read from Susan Wiggs.

This is 9th in the series, and I have enjoyed them all and loved Sonnet's story with a catch up on Nina her Mum as well. While this is 'romance' it is more women's fiction and a young person finding her real self.It begins and ends with a wedding, all very satisfying. While this is a series book, it can easily be read by itself, the series just gives backgroound knowledge of some of the minor characters to the reader who has read them all. No big deal.Joyce Bean does an excellent narration.

Good Story about What's Really Important in Life

Young, smart and beautiful, Sonnet has the world by the tail. She has a great job, has a handsome boyfriend, and has just won a coveted fellowship to an overseas post. Her dad is a retired general who's running for US Senate. Her mother, Nina, sacrificed her own youth, not even telling the young West Point cadet that she was pregnant, until many years later. When Nina needs her daughter, Sonnet moves back home to Avalon to be close to her family, and it's here that she begins to question the choices she's made. The audio book is so much more than a light love story. It's an honest searching of a woman's soul, about peeling away the layers of veneer and getting to the heart of things. It's about politics and people who cannot ever get past being polite and working their own agenda. And it's about those brave enough to be true to themselves and to others, despite the emotional cost.

Enjoyable -But some fact checking needed

It was a nice story as are all in this series. It’s an enjoyable relaxing listen. Here and there, there are several ridiculous things that happen. Like a professional and recognized videographer forgetting that when he records some thing it goes to the cloud. Really? Especially sex tapes. Really? That’s like tech 101. Or having your daughter cut off her hair to make you a wig when you lose yours to chemo, which typically takes 12 weeks but the turnaround is less than a month. Those are the little things that tripped me up sometimes when I read. So I try to ignore them. Those were two that just were tricky to ignore. But overall, with the time!

Lovely Romance Story.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Enjoyable, Easy to listen to, engaging

What did you like best about this story?

I just loved the characters, their developement.. even though it was entirely predicatable like most romances, it was thoroughly enjoyable and interesting. I loved the back story of the reality TV show, this added another layer and kept the interest up.
