Publisher's summary

Janet Evanovich and Lee Goldberg have teamed up for a dynamic new series featuring an FBI agent who’s on the hunt - and a master con artist who’s enjoying the chase. The con is on in this audiobook short story that’s a triumphant prequel to The Heist.

FBI special agent Kate O’Hare has made it her mission to nail international con artist Nicolas Fox. When she discovers his plot to plunder a venture capitalist’s 20th-story Chicago penthouse of all its cash and treasures while the self-proclaimed "King of Hostile Takeovers" is getting married, Kate is 85 percent - okay maybe 92 percent - sure that she’s finally going to bag Nick Fox.

Problem is, first Kate has to convince her boss, building security, and maybe even herself, that wedding planner Merrill Stubing is actually Nicolas Fox. Second, she has to figure out how to corner and capture him without disrupting the event of the year. And third, what’s going to happen once O’Hare finally gets her hands on Fox? It’s going take a pro to catch a con before the fireworks over Lake Michigan go off.

Great teaser! These characters have such great potential and I hope this turns into a series.

A past con with Kate as agent on the hunt

This short story one is good enough. It brings readers back to one of the cons referenced in the first book, to tell the full story. The long books are much better!

I am loving this new series. The problem is that now that I've had a taste, I'm concerned the authors can't write new books fast enough to satisfy my appetite. Chemistry, intelligence, and fun, I want more!

fun prequel to the Fox & O'Hare series

chemistry between the main characters begins early on...fun, playful while law abiding - who is chasing who?

Excellent prologue to The Heist!

If you could sum up Pros and Cons: A Short Story in three words, what would they be?

Woo hoo, Nick!

What did you like best about this story?

This story was an excellent prologue to The Heist, a full-length story with the same characters. I wish it had been listed as such on Audible.com. I listened to The Heist first. But it was okay to hear them in opposite order.

Have you listened to any of Scott Brick’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

For a man, Scott Brick is not a bad reader! He has a good voice for this sort of stuff! Adds more interest to the characters!

Who was the most memorable character of Pros and Cons: A Short Story and why?

Kate, the main character, is easily related to by anyone. Though she has a very specialized job, she also can be clumsy, messy, and has self-image issues...just like us! So the listener can relate when she falls over her own two feet, but also rejoice when her intuition is right on the money!

Any additional comments?

In a short amount of time, the listener gets a good idea of the main character and her "nemesis" and what each wants out of life. The story is interesting and exciting and ends just the way you would want it to (though not the way the main character seems to want it to end).

Fun Hour

As far as short stories go this was a gem. Loved the series and when this tid-bit came available I couldn't resist. Now I'm going to have to wait for the next full length version, which I hope is going to follow close behind.

Book is awesome, narrator is amazing

I fell in love with this series, starting with this book, and have read all of them since. I am a big audible fan and I have to say that Scott Brick does an outstanding job with this series. Between the writing that allows you to see the scenes take place and Mr. Brick’s skill of bringing a character to life, it is like being able to see it visually play out. Absolutely love the series and narrator.
