L.A. Theatre Works has made an ongoing commitment to record "the greatest acting talent of our time performing the world's finest literature." Charlayne Woodard's moving autobiographical piece certainly finds itself at home among the other recordings in LATW's repertoire. In five vignettes about three generations of her African-American family, Woodard paints a vibrant family portrait that is infused with humor, as well as solemnity. The recording is live, as are all L. A. Theatre Works' productions, and the audience's reactions make a wonderful background to Woodard's energetic performance.
(P)2000 L.A. Theatre Works
I purchased this on cassette a few years ago and thrilled to have it available on Audible. This artist has broad talent - acting, voice, comedy - which is demonstrated in this performance. There is no "downside" to this work so I recommend it 100%.
The rest of her work will also be added to my library.
Wonderful Family Story
I Loved Everything about Charlayne's performance, especially the way she made you see/picture and understand each character.
Yes, I cried, but it was during the second time I listen to it!
Everythings better in the South (lol)! As much as I know this is not true, there were times when I did feel that way!
Charlayne Woodard gives such a powerful performance that I could feel and see without even being at the live show. (Wish I could have been there!) I've listened to her work countless times and am both inspired and entertained every single time. This is storytelling at it's finest Honey Chile! MmHmm
Remember The Times
The anamation in her voice made you laugh and be apart of the book.
Pass it on!!
In order to relate to Charlayne you would have to walk in her shoes. People that are blindsided to this way of life will enjoy this book. It’s an eye opener.
