When, I first listened to this book. I was like the language was a little rough. Then, after listening for a while. I was this is reality for a lot of people. Precious really did not have a chance at all. She had a abusive mother and father. This book will take you thru a lot of emotions. You realize life is really not a crystal stairway.

Emotional, Difficult, Triumphant “Precious”

This story was often hard to listen to, as the main character Precious recounts the incestuous abuse that leads to her pregnancies. I kept listening, however, because Precious overcomes. It’s raw. It’s real. A story that highlights the abuse of women and children; a story that showcases that you can, in fact, overcome. Easily one of the most worthy books I’ve ever had the pleasure of listening to.

Precious (Push) is one of those books that makes you think about your life in totally different terms. The struggles of the main character are hard to inagine for many of us. Her strength and endurance despite those circumstances are more than just a feel-good. In fact this is not a feel-good book, but it will make your head spin and remember when you had dreams of a better future.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Precious?

When she first starts learning to use a journal and then developing an amazing relationship of support with her teacher. When she refuses to let her mother take over her existence again.

What about Bahni Turpin’s performance did you like?

Amazing. This is a hard character to imagine off the page, but the narrator really captures the character's voice and is truly excellent. She does an amazing job with this.

Highly recommended, even if you've already read the print version.

What made the experience of listening to Precious the most enjoyable?

Bahni Turpin is hands down my favorite narrator on Audible. I have others that I enjoy as well, but in my opinion, no one brings a story to life in quite the way she does. She is not just a story reader, but a true actress in the way she brings the characters to life. This is the second story I've listened to that she has narrated and all I can say is

The whole thing. It moved me from beginning to end. Makes my heart break and rejoice.

Brutal and Beautiful

This was a brutal listen. At an early point I wasn't sure that I would get through it and then I realized I couldn't possibly not listen. Beautifully read, very poetic. Gripping.

This was a amazing story.. So hard to listen to at some points very emotional..

The story draws you in

The narrator is excellent! She has the ability to take on each character in the story and depicts them as individual characters. The story is shattering, tragic yet hopeful. Precious is so beaten down, used, and neglected but she wasn’t lost. It highlights so many broken pieces in our system, and makes you wonder how many others have fallen through the cracks. It is a good read, and will take you places you never allowed yourself to go.

It was graphic but touching. Be advised that the language is very foul. It's impossible not to get emotional while listening to the story.
