Montana Dawn - Book One in The McCutcheon Family Series

2010 Maggie Finalist, 2010 Gayle Wilson Finalist , RWA Golden Heart Finalist

Montana Territory, August 1883

When Luke McCutcheon finds Faith Brown about to give birth in her rickety wagon, his first instincts are to ride for help. Instead, he stays and delivers a beautiful baby girl. Unable to leave the pretty young widow and her little son and newborn unprotected in the Montana wilderness, he brings them along on his family's cattle drive, to the absolute delight of the other friendly cowboys.

Luke, third son of Montana's wealthy McCutcheon family, is different from his brothers. As the offspring of a Cheyenne warrior, he carries a chip on his shoulder for all to see. His flashing eyes and handsome face make Faith feel she's stepped into some long-ago tale where men cherish their women--and keep them safe. If only she could trust him! Faith is on the run, and although she's pampered and protected by Luke and his family, she just can't risk the consequences of sharing the details of her past--one that's hunting to take her back to the nightmare she's just escaped. Happy-ever-afters are for fairytales, she reminds herself sternly as her heart feels the warm pull of his. Still, she can't help but dream of a loving family, a home to call her own, a beautiful and bright...Montana Dawn.

Predictable

I guess I was hoping for a less obvious ending. The narrator is easy to understand but I felt like I was listening to a book from junior high. Won’t be buying any more in this series.

Beautiful story and narration

I wasn't sure how I felt about a male narrator at first, but he did a great job. This is a sweet, but exciting story. I can't wait to check out the next book in the series.

Wagon Trail Adventure and Tender, Romantic Love

Where does Montana Dawn (McCutcheon Family Series - Book 1) rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Each book I listen to, has it's own fingerprint and it is really difficult to rank it among the diverse and eclectic genres of audiobooks that are my listening preferences. Suffice it to say It was a moving and touching experience to listen to Montana Dawn.I really like Caroline Fyffe's writing style and will read more of her books

Who was your favorite character and why?

Luke was my favourite character. He was loved by his family, peacemaker among his siblings, loyal to the very end. He had his own demons to manage, but above all, a man of honour ready to move decisively when the occasion warrants it, a romantic at heart, tender and loving. He had a heart as big and overflowing as his family at the ranch itself.

What about Corey Snow’s performance did you like?

Corey Snow as a male narrator used his higher range of speech to give a great rendition of the ladies he had to portray. He was really a good match for Faith's voice, and personality. Also Luke's mother and sister Charity were well done also. I wondered how he would manage the female voices as he was so excellent with Luke and all the other men, as he rendered the nuances of the emotions of rage, pain, sadness, joy and laughter. All in all as a narrator, he rocks.

If you could rename Montana Dawn (McCutcheon Family Series - Book 1), what would you call it?

Why rename it? As the name is so evocative of the baby Dawn, who was the crux of the story and the underpinning of the romance and tenderness of this wonderful audiobook, the name was the best.

Any additional comments?

Running away does not solve problems as we all know and this book reminds us of 'what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive' It was an enthralling and exciting adventure and the romance was tender and heartbreaking sometimes. At times one wonders how come minds become so terrified when our families seem to be at risk.

Caroline Fyffe's use of descriptive prose, imagery and wonderful dialogue carries one straight to the wagon trail along with her characters. She brought life back in those days vividly to your imagination as you traveled with the lowing of cattle and the camaraderie and lively banter of the stock hands at suppertime on the trail.

The adventures of living in the West among a loving and very happy family with their own stories was indeed a treasure unfolding along the way. The tender love story kept my attention and Corey Snow's voice dramatics kept me listening anxiously to hear what comes next.

No wonder Caroline was a Golden Heart Award winner!

the audio was frustrating because the first syllable was often missing. other than that the book was a good one.
