Miss Julia, a recently bereaved and newly wealthy widow, is only slightly bemused when one Hazel Marie Puckett appears at her door with a youngster in tow and unceremoniously announces that the child is the bastard son of Miss Julia's late husband. Suddenly, this longtime church member and pillar of her small Southern community finds herself in the center of an unseemly scandal - and the guardian of a wan nine-year-old whose mere presence turns her life upside down.
With razor-sharp wit and perfect "Steel Magnolia" poise, Miss Julia speaks her mind indeed - about a robbery, a kidnapping, and the other disgraceful events precipitated by her husband's death. Fast-paced and charming, with a sure sense of comic drama, a cast of crazy characters, and a strong Southern cadence, Miss Julia Speaks Her Mind will delight listeners from first minute to the last.

I enjoyed this book, the narrator really made this character loveable and you found yourself rooting for her.
Her voice, accent, timing....it was all very impressive
Too long to listen to in one setting I believe. My commute to work is 45 min and I enjoy listening to books during my commute.
yes……….. not if same narrator
NO!!!! over acting with over the top southern accent………I am from the south, I should know.
It was like Scarlett O'Hara in the 21st century …………Over actiing to the point of rolling my eyes
Narrator ruimed this book, I have listened to ALL Miss Julia books; love them and the Cynthia Darlow is perfect for these books!!!
Love Miss Julia books! The reader wasn't very good at changing voices. Cynthia Darlow does a much better job with our southern country drawl. I'm sure Karen does better with other accents.
Old, tired member of the sandwich generation. Waiting to just get to heaven!!
You just can't go wrong with a Miss Julia book. I wish that Audible would get all of them! This is the beginning of a wonderful ride that you shouldn't miss! Enjoy!
Comforting and addictive.
I would compare the series to the Father Tim series by Jan Karon.
It was just fine. I've grown used to Cynthia Darlow because she's the narrator for all the other "Miss Julia" books on Audible.
I'm going to contact Audible and see when the other four books will be available. I can't imagine they would put on Number One and not add the rest to catch up:-)
Avid reader for 45 years
Low key drama with humor and southern charm set in small town (1999). Main character is 65+ widow who is finding her backbone now that her controlling husband is gone. (Story drags a little in places, but that's on the editor more than the author). This series has potential, once Miss Julia stops caring what other people (mainly men) think of her actions. Love the idea of a series about an mature woman!
When Little Lloyd gives Miss Julia the "present" his daddy gave him!
She brought the characters to life. She gave each person a voice that made the book a joy to listen to.
Miss Julia. I loved the way, as the story progressed, her perspective changed about her situation and the people involved!
We've all heard the saying "if life gives you lemons, make lemonade." Well, Miss Julia and Hazel Marie do just that!
if southern women are this stupid stay out of the south:if church people are this mean and crooked, stay out of church. this book is full of stupid and money grubbing criminals and is about as funny as an Uzi going off in the back pew
