Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Shannon Hale has penned numerous award-winning novels. In this follow-up to Austenland, Charlotte Kinder is eager to escape the numbness she feels after her divorce. Deciding to get away, she visits the Regency-themed Pembrook Park resort in England, where talented actors set the perfect scene. But with everyone playing a role, it’s hard to distinguish reality from fantasy. So when Charlotte’s heart stirs, she wonders if she’s simply caught up in the experience - or if her ability to feel is finally returning.

Great for Fans of the First Novel

I would only recommend this to people who truly enjoyed the first book in the series. If you did, it’s a great follow up! It’s not a carbon copy of the first novel. Instead, it leans towards mystery, which is cool, plus there is obviously still romance.
I thought it was a very original way to follow up the first novel. Perfect for people who love Austen and the Regency era.

didn't enjoy it as much as the first

Where does Midnight in Austenland rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

near the middle

Would you be willing to try another book from Shannon Hale? Why or why not?

I've already read Austenland. I actually really enjoy that book and have read it several times. This book wasn't as interesting. The story was different, which was good, but the characters and plotlines just weren't as compelling.

Any additional comments?

If you loved Austenland, be prepared, this is not a sequel.

so fun!

I am a fan of visiting the various Austin worlds that have sprung up in modern literature and this book did not disappoint.

Delightful

This is one of my favorite audiobooks of all time!
The narrator is TOP NOTCH. She is so talented. I wish she narrated more.
The story is funny and has a mystery and of course it’s set in Austenland! I wish the author would write more Austenland stories.

Great Book

Great author, great narrator. I loved that there were some recurring characters (most excited over Miss Charming and Colonel Andrews!). That being said - very different from the first book, but anyone who enjoys cozy mysteries and Jane Austen should love this!!

surprisingly satisfying

I bought this wanting something light to listen to in the car and on my walks but I ended up sitting on the sofa at home as well and listening to it avidly. it's a mystery and romance and a human nature story.

Fun storyline that includes a murder mystery!

I enjoyed this audiobook very much, and the narrator did a great job. Charlotte's humor while talking to herself was a bonus! The story seemed like it came to an endpoint but then kept going again - which was great, but think the flow could have been better. I would still recommend this book and would listen to it again in the future! Hope to see more books in "Austenland" from the author!

A really cute sequel to Austenland

Loved how this gave a deeper look at a few of the characters from the first book and the main character (Charlotte) is lovely
