Into this exotic New Orleans realm comes David Talbot, hero, storyteller, adventurer, almost mortal vampire, visitor from another dark realm. It is he who recounts Merrick's haunting tale - a tale that takes us from the New Orleans of the past and present to the jungles of Guatemala, from the Mayan ruins of a century ago to ancient civilizations not yet explored.
Anne Rice's richly told novel weaves an irresistible story of two worlds: the witches' world and the vampires' world, where magical powers and otherworldly fascinations are locked together in a dance of seduction, death, and rebirth.

"Rice offers a haunting look at the separate but equally intriguing worlds of witches and vampires" (Publishers Weekly)
It was a good book to read. Not at all like Anne's other vampire books but just as good. I loved Merrick she is a cool character and very powerful.
A moving a tale as only Anne Rice can tell. The story line flows flawlessly
Graeme Malcolm, an exceptional reading, pleasant to listen too.
Vocal tones and inflections done with prefection.
This is the best one in the Vampire chonicles in quite some time. It left me wanting more, but intriqued enough to pick up the series again. I'd rate these characters as well-done as the original Vampire LeStadt.
I had only listened to/read one Anne Rice book before and had been pretty disappointed in it. But I decided to give her another chance, and I am so glad I did! This book is absolutely awesome! There is so much intrigue, darkness, and suspense in the book. It's characters were interesting and I was able to relate this book to the little I did know of her books. Great listen.
I especially liked the reader Graeme Malcolm's reading. I hope he will do more readings of Anne Rice's work.
This book was basically a series of flashbacks about characters no one cares about. We are told Merrick is this fantastic witch and she doesn't do ANYTHING to substantiate this claim other than some parlor tricks and mind reading - which any fledgling can do. I do not understand why the premise of the book, Louis wanting to speak to Claudia's ghost, was abandoned for 90% of the book so we could hear flashbacks about Merrick's dead relatives.
Yes it did, I just wished allthe books, were unabridged?
Can't wait to see were they all go.also what they leave behind.Especially after the, threatening notes left bytheTaramasalata .
I personally have been loving the vampire chronicles. This book was no different except Lestat was absent from the majority of the story. Still I love the book as much as the others and have no doubts that I will finish the series and go on to the next! Highly recommend this to all vampire story lovers whether you read them or listen to them they are wonderful!!!!
No, because it seems as though she was picking previous characters and re-telling parts of their stories. Too tame for Anne Rice.
I don't know.
I like his voice; very pleasant.
Definitely not. She does not play a substantial role. She is mostly listening.
This is the first audio book I was unable to finish. Slow and tedious, I stuck with it for around half the book then gave up. The main characters attitude towards Merrick I found just a little creepy and the story didn't seem to be going anywhere.
