Bringing together Oryx and Crake and The Year of the Flood, this thrilling conclusion to Margaret Atwood's speculative fiction trilogy points toward the ultimate endurance of community, and love.

Months after the Waterless Flood pandemic has wiped out most of humanity, Toby and Ren have rescued their friend Amanda from the vicious Painballers. They return to the MaddAddamite cob house, newly fortified against man and giant pigoon alike. Accompanying them are the Crakers, the gentle, quasi-human species engineered by the brilliant but deceased Crake. Their reluctant prophet, Snowman-the-Jimmy, is recovering from a debilitating fever, so it's left to Toby to preach the Craker theology, with Crake as Creator. She must also deal with cultural misunderstandings, terrible coffee, and her jealousy over her lover, Zeb.

Zeb has been searching for Adam One, founder of the God's Gardeners, the pacifist green religion from which Zeb broke years ago to lead the MaddAddamites in active resistance against the destructive CorpSeCorps. But now, under threat of a Painballer attack, the MaddAddamites must fight back with the aid of their newfound allies, some of whom have four trotters. At the center of MaddAddam is the story of Zeb's dark and twisted past, which contains a lost brother, a hidden murder, a bear, and a bizarre act of revenge.

Combining adventure, humor, romance, superb storytelling, and an imagination at once dazzlingly inventive and grounded in a recognizable world, MaddAddam is vintage Margaret Atwood - a moving and dramatic conclusion to her internationally celebrated dystopian trilogy.

Critic reviews

"The final entry in Atwood’s brilliant MaddAddam trilogy roils with spectacular and furious satire.... Her vision is as affirming as it is cautionary, and the conclusion of this remarkable trilogy leaves us not with a sense of despair at mankind’s failings but with a sense of awe at humanity’s barely explored potential to evolve." ( Publishers Weekly)
"Ten years after Oryx & Crake rocked readers the world over, Atwood brings her cunning, impish, and bracing speculative trilogy - following The Year of the Flood - to a gritty, stirring, and resonant conclusion.... Atwood is ascendant, from her resilient characters to the feverishly suspenseful plot involving battles, spying, cyberhacking, murder, and sexual tension.... The coruscating finale in an ingenious, cautionary trilogy of hubris, fortitude, wisdom, love, and life’s grand obstinacy." ( Booklist)

Toby and Zeb

I won't give anything away but I sincerely enjoyed this story. It is the third of a series and ended with hope. I liked 'knowing' the characters and what brought them together.

Beautiful writing, Atwood being Atwood

The whole trilogy is incredibly well-crafted, as I assumed it would be. What I didn’t quite expect were the laugh-out-loud funny moments in the midst of all the chaos and tragedy. Who knew that a bit with the f-word could be an Atwood specialty? That alone is worth the price of admission,

Narrator could have been better

Just as in Handmaids Tale, you will be totally lost at first, but keep listening. The male narrator drove me crazy. He narrated in what I can only describe as a sing-song type, stop and go voice, like he was reading poetry as Captain Kirk. It was annoying to say the least, but since that was only part of the book and the woman narrator was so good, I was able to trudge through because it was a great story. On to book 2!

Awesome Trilogy!

Frequently a series of books has its boring parts. This set is so well done that that is not the case. All three books stand alone and work brilliantly as a set. It is def worth the time investment!

Sometimes hard to listen to..

A good book/trilogy. Sad though because at times one could imagine we are not so far from the evolution of society that is presented.
I did enjoy the characters and imagination I. The writing.

Wonderful

This is probably one of the best trilogies I have ever heard/read. Margaret Atwood is of course incredibly talented and intelligent and a very gifted storyteller. We all know that… But I don’t know that I really appreciated it until I read this series.

The first two books in the series were at first strange and then thought-provoking. Just like her other books that I have read there is so much underlying commentary on the state of the world today and the possible future. It’s believable and scary and a warning to us about taking care of each other and of the earth. But this one… This third book, ties the trilogy together so beautifully. It’s full of adventure and life, And leaves you wanting more and more. It pulls at the heartstrings and sparks the imagination. I didn’t want it to end. Although, when it finally did end, it was a perfect ending. Exactly as it should be, no cliffhangers, just lovely closure.

I know that it will be one of the series that I return to again and again. I know that I will hear more, and recognize more and appreciate more with every listen. The narrator’s are really great. They bring the characters to life. I am so happy that I own it now.
