Excellent

It's was an amazing way to show how greed and exploitation can effect us all. The character of Johnnie was well written. Goes to show you that some of difficulties that we go through. There's always a brighter day. Well Done!!!

Good story

I like this book because it is a good easy relaxing listen. You do not have to listen with any great intensity. The pace is good, the plot is okay. This is the kind of book that most people will enjoy. Besides, I had not listened to a Griot Audio book in a while. It will not disappoint. I intend to listen to the next one in the series.

Little Black Girl Lost

I was initially angry reading this book. The mother was beyond belief and to use your child like that is despicable! But the daughter seemed to become quickly, too quickly, skilled at the sick game. I do know as a black woman myself that it was hopeless time for women of color and can understand the cool indifference. I found unfortunately that too much time and detail were spent on the sexual activities, and not enough on the character events. And was a bit disappointed in the endings and outcome!

This book would definitely have been made much more interesting and flowed better with a female narrator!! Especially since all the main characters were female. That left it feeling unrealistic as the narrator's voice wasn't very good with voice inflections.

The Power of the P!

I enjoyed this story because it outlines the journey of a young lady who recognizes her situation and transforms her trauma into a profitable venture for herself. *Haters won't understand.* (If you got it, make it work for you) At some point in the story it became a bit implausable that this is the mind of a 16-year-old making these crafty decisions though.

I have great empathy for the plight of the black woman. They can become the most resourceful and resilient people on the planet. Think about it:In the slavery days a black woman *had* to make love to the "Massah", raise the "Massah's son and give herself to him if he desired her, go back to the "quarters" and make love to her very bitter "beau" -AND on top of that- keep her sanity while raising the children and keeping the house. Admit it! Black women are amazing! Once they recognize their situation and they learn how to turn their curses into triumph.

However, the conclusion could have been better for me in my opinion. I wanted Johnnie to make an explosive exit at the end. Not a quiet dribble.

Awesome book

I listened to this book in my spare time, mostly my commute to and from work and I couldnt wait to get back to it. There was a lot of sexual activity, but I didn't mind it. I love books of that nature. Great story! Im am purchasing part two today!
