When werewolf hunter Cormac shows up with an injured Ben O'Farrell, Kitty's lawyer, slung over his shoulder, and a wolf-like creature with glowing red eyes starts sniffing around the cabin, Kitty wonders if any of them will get out of these woods alive.

"Strong on characterization, Vaughn creates characters worth visiting time after time in this compelling world." (Booklist)
The title of the book makes it sound less serious than the book actually is...but Vaughn does a imaginative and thorough job describing the fictious werewolf culture and other paranormal subjects. Characters are well developed, and Kitty is really likeable. The mystery in the story is captivating. It is another great escape for readers in the Kitty series. Recommend reading in order to see the development of each character. Narrator is great.
Carrie Vaughn's writing combined with Marguerite Gavin's reading have created the best combination of erotic love story I have heard in a long time.
Marguerite Gavin's voice made me fall in love with Carrie Vaughn's character Kitty. This is the one of the best love story thus far in the series.
There are time when the tension just drove me crazy. I developed a real antagonism toward the sherif and prosecutor. McCormick really seemed like a real person in this novel. I was glad to see his character develop. Ben added the sizzle.
If you have read this book it is still a good buy just to here Marguerite Gavin read it. What a joy to listen to.
Let us hope the fountain of inspiration continues to deliver copious amounts of the height standard of literature Carrie Vaughn has been producing. The stories are the best.
I gave the story itself the stars. Love smart, funny, snarky female protangonists, and there are several books in this series, a plus for me!
Unfortunately, I could not get past the narrator. The story was good enough in the first book to get past Ms. Gavin, and the character was a radio personality... Did not finish this book, and believe me that is rare! Marguerite Gavin sounds like the actress Wendy Malick, and that is the picture I got in my head, not some young (at the time of her attack), slacker girl. Ms. Gavin's narration is a bit too sophisticated for what I picture Kitty to be. Even alone in the cabin in the woods she uses the "Midnight Hour Voice," for internal dialogue. Of course we all have our own mental images... I'll give this series another try.. in print.
This book was kind of a slog to get through. I continue to enjoy reading stories involving Kitty, but this story seemed somewhat adrift and not anchored like the first two books. It also had the odd feel that there were basically two stories in this book that are combined. The mystery of who is harassing Kitty during her self-enforced isolation and the part where she deals with the aftereffects of the first story.
Overall we get a better understanding of the world that Kitty lives in (with the expansion of new types of supernatural creatures and of magic) as well as better understanding of the two men who dominate her life, her lawyer, Ben, and her occasional hunter ally Cormic.
I really do enjoy the tone (the voice) of Kitty, she remains an engaging character and I have hopes for the next book. It helps that in the end she is back where she belongs, behind the mic.
I Love a great supernatural tale, a Love story, PNR, a Cool Mystery and Most Sci-Fi....if there are vampires, weres or witches in it, that's a plus! Basically I am a 40+ y/o young at heart woman rediscovering the wonderful world of books and am now addicted! Lol I LOVE AUDIBLE!!!!!
It was wonderful, and MG makes Kitty such a great character...warm and loving...strong and caring....Kitty is one of my new fave heroines!
I love that Kitty had finally found someone to care about and care for her....
After her and Ben's first shift together...how she held him, and comforted him...and there first true kiss....In was sooo happy for her....
Beware of what lurks in the woods...small towns can be hell!!!!!!!!!!!
I love this series....I am starting #4 now...anyone who doesn't like these books is cheating themselves....Kitty is awesome!!!!! Highly Recommend!!!!!!!
Love fantasy books, usually with a strong female character. I also enjoyed just about anything from J.D Robb I am a fan of mysteries as well. I also enjoy funny and quirky novels anything from Molly Harper is a winner in my book. Since listening to audio books is important to me while I travel I also follow certain narrators as well.
Ok, something about the name "Kitty" turned me off this book for about a year, finally I gave into to all the recommendations. I am glad I did. She is funny and so unlucky, it reminds me of Stephanie Plum in Janet Evanovich series, but much much more unlucky. I got hooked quickly and I only have one book left in the series. Each book builds on the last, and average about 7 hours a piece just enough time for Kitty to get herself in trouble and right back out of it again. This is not a deep book but enjoyable just the same. It's light at times, funny, and then serious but not so overwhelming that you can't set it down and come back to it. Its a good light read and the narrator was just perfect for the book, she tells the story in a light enjoyable way, and she has become the voice of Kitty in my mind.
I LOVE Audible
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys the vampire/warewolf/witch genre. Carrie Vaughn's series has a quick pace and light hearted plot that will keep you entertained.
My favourite character would have to be Cormac, since I believe he and Kitty will eventually be an item... who knows when.
The naration is good, Marguerite's voice and inflection changes as the characters change, making it a believable performance.
I enjoy when Kitty talks about the Pack, in each book she discusses the importance of the Pack and the effects of not having one. The correlation to the real world 'Family' is obvious, and I love how important that is to the author and the charaters in her books.
Great escape from the real world.
This is a boring, boring book. No other way to say it. Every time you think its going somewhere it just dies. About 5 pages of action. This could have been a great book if it took place somewhere besides deep in the woods. That just helped to slow the story down. I'm about 3/4 through and I'm fast forwarding a few pages at a time. This should be a $4.95 book. Marguerite Gavin is good as always.
As a whole, steps above most of what we find as far as quality of writing, use of language and writing skills and execution of the story by the narrator. Enjoyed it more than most audiobooks. Has something for the intellect on the conveyance of emotional positioning as far as understanding what it is to be alpha or not. Has sociological study value.
