Publisher's summary

John Dies at the End is a genre-bending, humorous account of two college drop-outs inadvertently charged with saving their small town—and the world—from a host of supernatural and paranormal invasions.

Stop.

You should not have touched this flyer with your bare hands.

No, don’t put it down. It’s too late. They’re watching you.

My name is David Wong. My best friend is John. Those names are fake. You might want to change yours. You may not want to know about the things you’ll read on these pages, about the sauce, about Korrok, about the invasion, and the future. But it’s too late. You touched the book. You’re in the game. You’re under the eye.

The only defense is knowledge. You need to read this book, to the end. Even the part with the bratwurst. Why? You just have to trust me.

The important thing is this: the drug is called Soy Sauce, and it gives users a window into another dimension. John and I never had the chance to say no. You still do.

I’m sorry to have involved you in this, I really am. But as you read about these terrible events and the very dark epoch the world is about to enter as a result, it is crucial you keep one thing in mind: none of this was my fault.

Pure Awesome

I loved this book. It was incredibly bizarre. The creatures were disgusting and the humor was black. It touched me in places that shouldn't be touched.

Excellent

I occasionally disagreed with his inflection, but that tends to be unavoidable when listening to a book you've already read. great performance. The story is wonderful as well, poorly paced, but very unique and entertaining.

Okay listen not great just average.

I did enjoy it. Good reader however he sometimes mumble the end of sentences. Interesting concepts.about parallel worlds. Didn't rate 5 stars because I felt some of the story line was a bit old.

Disappointed

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

I had previously listened to This Book Is Full of Spiders Dude Seriously Don't Touch it, by David Wong, and I really hoped that I would enjoy John Dies At The End as well as I did the other. Unfortunately, I had been spoiled by the fantastic narrator of the TBIFOSDSDTI, and listening to John Dies At The End was anticlimactic. I have no idea if the JDATE book itself is truly as funny as the other, because the narrators are so different. Perhaps if the Spiders narrator had read it, John Dies would have been hilarious. What I mean to say is this: This narrator just missed the delivery of the witticisms so frequently that I became disinterested in the story.
If you want a great David Wong book: Dude. Seriously listen to the Spiders book instead.

Not meant for me ...

Honestly, I just think that this book was written for a whole different age group or genre. I get the horror and the comedy parts. But overall, I just kept getting lost from horror jump to horror jump. Nothing seriously against the book, I bought the book because so many people gave it 4 to 5 stars. So I thought, why not try something different??? Well ... it way different than I like. Some call it a thriller .... um ... I just didn't get that from the writing. Also, some said that they just couldn't put the book down. Well, trust me, I did. I made to the end and still walked off with the thinking of "huh?"

Here's my recommendation to future listeners of this book ... read all the comments. If it's your cup of tea, get it! If not, keep looking.

Nothing against the writer or the listener, it just wasn't for me. And that's cool ...

Fun, truly unique story that dates itself

There was so much about this book that I loved, but BOY did it date itself with constant derogatory use of the word ‘retarted’. Granted, it fits with everything else about David’s character- but it’s like a little electric shock every time the narrator says it.

Dear David Wong: Please write more!

Is it a problem that I've listened to this masterpiece over ten times?

You're fabulous!
