Sounds like it was originally recorded on a grammophone, converted to tape, and then converted to audible format. There were passages that were literally undecipherable even in format 4. The book itself is quite good, feeling like a true Jeeves novel, with an appropriate laughable ending. But find another recording and save your poor ears.
As always Jeeves and Bertie continue to entertain BUT the naration was almost intolerable. It was like hearing chalk on a blackboard. I was tempted several times to give up listening but suffered through it because I enjoy the characters so much.
"Good story, not a favourite narrator"
At first, I was a little put off by the fact that the narrator talks so quickly. Several times I had to rewind a bit and listen to something one or two times more before I could make out what it was. I got over that as I got used to the speed though. Only, the more I got used to the speed with which this is narrated, the more I started noticing the fact that the narrator seems to think that Bertie has a speech defect! Often when Bertie is saying something, he sounds like he's nearly stuttering and this doesn't seem to happen with any of the other characters. I found it quite annoying, as I'm pretty certain there has been no mention before of Bertie having this sort of trouble.
"No review needed!"
You either 'get' Wodehouse and love him as I do or you don't.
Ian Carmichael and Jonathan Cecil are the only two narrators who can do justice to Jeeves and Wooster. Sorry Martin Jarvis - love your William but Wooster : NO, NO, NO.
"story spoiled by narration"
Found the words difficult to hear, as the narrator speaks very quickly. This should be a relaxing listen, given the story, but instead the over- rapid narration makes it a tense listening experience, in which the pleasure of Wodehouse's language is much diminished by the narration. I would not recommend this narrator.
