Publisher's summary

Take a wonderfully crazed excursion into the demented heart of a tropical paradise - a world of cargo cults, cannibals, mad scientists, ninjas, and talking fruit bats. Our bumbling hero is Tucker Case, a hopeless geek trapped in a cool guy's body, who makes a living as a pilot for the Mary Jean Cosmetics Corporation. But when he demolishes his boss's pink plane during a drunken airborne liaison, Tuck must run for his life from Mary Jean's goons. Now there's only one employment opportunity left for him: piloting shady secret missions for an unscrupulous medical missionary and a sexy blond high priestess on the remotest of Micronesian hells. Here is a brazen, ingenious, irreverent, and wickedly funny novel from a modern master of the outrageous.

Fun Read

I bought this title during one of the sales. I didn't know exactly what to expect, but I'm glad I took the risk. The characters were very different from most novels. We have islanders, a corrupt doctor and, naturally, the sequined love nun.

Pilot Tucker Case is a miscreant who has a hard time following rules. As a result he is persuaded to fly the pink plane of Mary Jean Cosmetics while under the influence in order to help a young lady (and I use the term loosely) join the mile high club. From there it's all downhill for Tucker. He's disgraced and ends up on an island in Micronesia. Getting there is difficult and along the way we meet navigator Kimi, who has some unusual behaviors of his own. We also fall in with love Roberto, a talking fruit bat. We cheer on the Shark People, indigenous to the island. We cross our fingers that the doctor and his amoral wife get what they deserve. And we hope that the ghost of Capt. Vincent Bennidetti, USAF, gives Tucker enough guidance (but not too much) so that he doesn't screw it up. Many times, however, Tucker comes close.

This isn't a thriller in the traditional sense of one. But it has thriller plot lines liberally seasoned with humor. The reluctant hero theme is evident, but Tucker is charming, although stupid in some places. He learns and grows and so we stick with him.

The performance is well done. The writing is good. Go on. Take the same chance I did. you won't be disappointed.

redeeming light thriller

Entertaining thriller that doesn't get stuck taking itself seriously. Redemption story, so takes awhile to start liking the "bumbling hero". Adult content -- not for the family car trip. At about $1/hr, worth the price or credit.

This one is a keeper.

I really enjoyed this book. I instantly fell in love with the characters, which works out great if your a Christopher Moore fan because he likes to use his characters in multiple books. I think this is kind of a bonus for the reader.

I Liked It

Island of the Sequined Love Nun is a cute story. This is what I've come to expect from Christopher Moore; a light amusing story revolving around quirky characters. I think it's worth the download.

Save your credits...

Not nearly as good as Moore's other books. I'm a huge fan of the You Suck series, and have liked a few others like Lamb, but this one was not funny. It didn't make any sense and was so out there that I didn't laugh once. I stopped half-way through.

gratuitous everything and not funny

I really enjoy listening to Christopher Moore's other books, but this one was pretty terrible. The main character was unappealing, as was almost every other character, the story was predictable and there was a plethora of patronizing and offensive stereotypes littered throughout the book. Give it a skip.

Not What You Should Expect From Christopher Moore

Most of Christopher Moore's books are great satire. This one is just dumb. I am sorry that I wasted my time with it.

Funny and whitty

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

It was my first book by the author and I had no expectations - I was very happily surprised to find out the story is not at all linear and obvious and the writting is clever and funny all the way. I will definetely search for more titles from C. Moore!

What did you like best about this story?

The sory is not basic and the writing is really nice. It keeps you up and running all along - and smiling!

What about Oliver Wyman’s performance did you like?

He got the character very well and was excellent doing the voices of the secondary ones too. He keeps up the pace of the story, no slowing down, very good.

If you could rename Island of the Sequined Love Nun, what would you call it?

"Have you considered living in the tropics?"
