In the little town that's home-away-from-home to millions of readers, life hums along as usual. Dooley looks toward his career as a vet; Joe Ivey and Fancy Skinner fight a haircut price war that takes no prisoners; and Percy steps out on a limb with a risky new menu item at the Main Street Grill.
Though Father Tim dislikes change, he dislikes retirement even more. As he and Cynthia gear up for a year-long ministry across the state line, a series of events sends shock waves through his faith, and the whole town of Mitford.
In her seventh novel in the best-selling Mitford Years series, Jan Karon delivers surprises of every kind, including the return of the man in the attic and an ending that no one in Mitford will ever forget.

"Homespun dialogue, fresh and lively descriptions, laugh-out-loud moments and poignant scenes mark the heartfelt book." (Publishers Weekly)
Mary in Palos Verdes 15 year listener of audio books because I don't have time to sit down and read and many many times the narrator enhances the story.
I love the Mitford series by Jan Karon, it's a sweet Christian series that makes you feel good(Although the many characters are Christians, they are not portrayed as perfect--they have all of our common foibles which are funny and very recognizable). The narrator, John McDonough does an absolutely perfect job. I have enjoyed all of the books in the series. I have read about half of them and listened to half. This is one of those books that is preferred as an audible book. This is my first review and I couldn't reccommend a series more highly. I can't wait until Audible has them all! it's the kind of book (series) you can listen to and enjoy over and over.
Say something about yourself!
What a charming pleasure to listen to. I feel sorry to have such a positive and quirky series drawing to a close. Well written, engaging and beautifully read.
Always fun visiting Father Tim and Mitford. This audiobook seemed to have some bad edits in the production or I had a bad download. There seemed to be abrupt endings to chapters or sections with immediate jumps into the next section. Confusing sometimes and I felt like I missed a tiny bit of the story. All that aside or shall I say "with everything, give thanks," it is still a great story and John McDonald, narrator, is perfect for the Mitford series.
Another of the great Jan Karon's At Home in Mitford series. Characters come to life in each book and you can not wait to hear what happens in the next installment. We travel with them in the car. We never get inpatient or annoyed over construction or other hold up on the road as we are happily enjoying life in Mitford. This is a series the whole family can enjoy and wrap their conversations around. No sex, violence or bad language. Warning for very small children is it about life and sometimes bad things happen to good people, but the author always teaches us a valuable lesson we can carry to our lives.
I love all of Jan Karon's books in this series. I have read all of then at least 3 times and listened to them on audio once or twice. Heaven will be just like Mitford- with out the pain of course. Perfection
Great use of Characters . when one moves or dies we miss them. I read these years ago but
am amazed how much I didn't remember.
Husband loves to listen with me. He grins all the time we are listening.
I appreciate a light-hearted, easy-going story. I appreciate a story that holds my attention and keeps me interested without trying to use sinful behavior or unbelievable nonsense to do so. I appreciate books in a series that use the same characters and setting making you feel as though you have come home to friends and family when you turn the pages. This book has it all.
I highly recommend the entire "At Home in Mitford" series. The books follow a simple preacher man as he does his best to do God's will. The fun characters, southern sayings, tasty foods and quirky adventures make for an enjoyable read and a purpose to help others and follow Christ.
I recommend this book and the series for all ages.
Loves to read but doesnt have time to turn the pages....
I have read and re-read this series I total of eight times now. I love Jan Karen, and her caring heart, and the lovely characters that have become real life friends to me. In this mountain was a heaven sent book. And the narrator was wonderful.
