Publisher's summary

While walking home from work one evening, Jeff Manning is struck by a car and killed. Two women fall to pieces at the news: His wife, Claire, and his co-worker Tish. Reeling from her loss, Claire must comfort her grieving son as well as contend with funeral arrangements, well-meaning family members, and the arrival of Jeff's estranged brother, who was her ex-boyfriend. Tish volunteers to attend the funeral on her company's behalf, but only she knows the true risk of inserting herself into the wreckage of Jeff's life.

Told through the three voices of Jeff, Tish, and Claire, Hidden explores the complexity of relationships, the repercussions of our personal choices, and the responsibilities we have to the ones we love.

would have been better...

the person who narrated Claire was terrible! She had an annoying sing song voice that almost made it unbearable for me to complete this. I'm really surprised she was chosen to narrarate. the story in itself was soso, not good and not bad. At times I drifted off from shear boredom.

#Clairesvoice

Would you listen to Hidden again? Why?

No, there would be absolutely no reason to ever listen to this again and put myself in that kind of agony when Claire's whiny voice was narrating. Nails on a blackboard would be a delight, a song, a chorus of angelic voices compared to it.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Hidden?

While the story was interesting, nothing really pops out as a "WOW" moment. It flows along and keeps you wondering how things will play out - but overall it's not edge of your seat material.

What aspect of the narrators’s performance would you have changed?

I'm not sure which person performed Claire's voice, but it deserves its own hashtag for being one of the worst voices I've listened to in the over 70 books I've downloaded.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Nothing stays a secret.

Any additional comments?

It's worth a credit - it's entertaining, but take a valium when Claire is reading.

The voice of Clare was EXTREMELY annoying!!

I somewhat enjoyed the storyline but I could not stand to listen to Clare's whiney, annoying voice. The other readers were wonderful but Clare ruined the story for me. It was predictable and a bit boring.

Okay Story Made Better by Multiple Narrators

I bought this audiobook because I like books that have different narrators for each character. It's been a while since I listened to it, but I don't remember disliking the narrator for Claire, as many reviewers mentioned. I thought it was an okay story about potential cheating, but I don't think I would have enjoyed as much if not for the multiple narrators,

Perfect except for…

Claire's voice. It was excruciating. I thought it was just me until I'm at the at the reviews. A wonderful voice actress for some books, but not for this one. However, this story was great. With a shocking twist at the end.

Arghh I wish I had not listened to the prologue

I have no respect for cheaters and I almost gave up half way thru this story but I pressed on and was wishing that in the end it had been just flirting, that perhaps they had come to their senses and really decided not to go further... I'm not sure I agree with Claire's sister's opinion that it would be better not to know, even if things ended up not working out after all something of that magnitude that affects the way I see someone and our relationship, I think I have a right to know. I wish the story had ended when Tristan deleted that last message, really. The prologue just made me confirm that men cannot and will not be faithful when push comes to shove...

Reading is over-the-top irritating

Would you listen to Hidden again? Why?

This book was good, but the characters, reading in voices of others (a man imitating the wife's voice; a woman imitating her son's voice...ad nauseam), goes on way too much.

Even as we are relating a story to friends, we might imitate the voice of the other person for a minute, but then we would likely stop as we continue. In this book, it doesn't stop. For example, the character Jeff (or is it Brian? Anyway...), talks. When he relates a conversation he has had with his wife, he imitates her responses in what he imagines to be "her voice" the *whole time.* It is embarrassing to listen to; so unlike true conversations.

Not real, not cool. WHO relates a story that way!?

Who was your favorite character and why?

Not sure yet.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

See above. Stupid, continuing imitations of others' voices.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I listened as I drove.Yes -- it keeps you engaged despite the pesky narration.

Any additional comments?

Who had the idea to narrate this way!? It is amateur.

Decent Story

I enjoyed the story, but I think I would have enjoyed the performance more if there had been a different narrator for the Claire character. Her nasally voice and strange affectation nearly prevented me from finishing.

I wish I knew which female narrator she was so I could avoid her narrations in the future.
