The author was perfect in capturing the feelings and emotions of the family going through a wife finding out her husband is gay. This couldn't be a more perfect portrayal of overcoming the devastation and finding the strength to move on to a better place.
Avid Listener of audio books!
Yes, because with this storyline, I'm not sure the print edition would have held my attention because as I tell all of my friends, many of these books really come to life because of the narrators. And Patricia R. Floyd is one of my favorite narrators; she always knows how to bring a story to life. And that is why I prefer audio over reading because I enjoy the performances.
There were no areas that really moved me in anyway. I just felt that the book was interesting and held my attention because the way the author threaded the different situations together, made for an overall interesting story. I do not ever remember feeling bored or like I was ready for the book to end. I would recommend the book; did not feel like I wasted a credit.
Yes, I have listened to Patricia R. Floyd many times before and simply love her voice. She is an awesome performer. In fact, that is how I find other books because I look for books narrated by her. However, in this book, I could hear her swallowing and smacking her lips throughout the book as other individuals have stated. But, since I really enjoy her work, I barely noticed it as a distraction.
It was a predictable story because whenever the main character loses something in a relationship, they always gain it back in another way. I also find it interesting that when other single women in the book can't seem to find and keep a man, her girlfriend that already has someone always seems to find a man that is ready to commit.I felt the author could have done a better job at the conclusion of the story.
Also, character development was lacking. For instance, the character, Jet Jennings was mentioned throughout the book but I was never able to draw a clear picture of who he was. In many stories I have listened to in the past, I have found that some characters are developed so well, I felt I could actually reach out and touch them. In this book, I did not really feel like that.Sheridan and her son Christopher were the only ones in the book that I felt had a real presence because the author spent more time developing their characters based on how they responded to what was happening in the storyline.

just wasn't feeling the story, too drawn out for something that was obvious
love her as a narrator, story was whack
The author wrote a good book. The story was well paced, and the author did a good job developing the main character and her children, but more character development could have been done on the husband, whose decision has affected his family. Overall, the author does a good job showing how later life adult/parental decisions can impact on the entire family system. The author also does a good job demonstrating, through the characters, how faith helps each of them survive .
This story was just OK...I did finish it but have listened to much better...I had a hard time getting beyond the noises the narrator made. She was making rather gross mouth noises in between phrases...a slapping wet sound..very unusual I would say. It never really let up through the whole story....So, if you can get beyond that, you might give it a go. It did keep my attention which is more than I can say for some "chick lit" books I've read lately...
It's a story of courage, and transparency. I thought it would be the typical poor black woman victim story that authors seem to love. You know some sister done wrong and her becoming broken and bitter only for another man to come in and save the day. Not this story. It was more realistic and honest to the emotions of the characters. I love the ending (I won't spoil it), I'm I was glad to see the emotional growth of the main character. She refused to stay a victim.
HAVEN'T READ THE PRINT ONLY LISTENED TO THE AUDIBLE.
I LOVE THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN BROCK AND SHERIDAN.
WHEN BROCK SHOWED UP TO SHERIDAN'S DOOR WITH A PACKAGE AND SHE GOES OFF ON HIM, THEN SOON REALIZES WHAT SHE'S DONE.
GREAT BOOK, THE WHOLE SERIES WAS EXCEPTIONAL!!!
I felt emotional in a lot of parts of this book. I actually wanted the wife to be more angry in certain situations, due to her husband not understanding her feelings. There are a lot of good lessons that can be learned from this book. I would definitely listen to it again and recommend it to my friends.
