Publisher's summary

Introducing Gideon Crew: trickster, prodigy, master thief....

At 12, Gideon Crew witnessed his father, a world-class mathematician, accused of treason and gunned down.

At 24, summoned to his dying mother's bedside, Gideon learned the truth: His father was framed and deliberately slaughtered. With her last breath, she begged her son to avenge him.

Now, with a new purpose in his life, Gideon crafts a one-time mission of vengeance, aimed at the perpetrator of his father's destruction. His plan is meticulous, spectacular, and successful.

But from the shadows, someone is watching. A very powerful someone, who is impressed by Gideon's special skills. Someone who has need of just such a renegade.

For Gideon, this operation may be only the beginning....

not very plausible

The social engineering parts did not feel very plausible to me and the motivations for much of the main actions were not very believable. It felt like the motivation was manufactured so the desired events could take place instead of naturally flowing from the characters and situations.

A new hero!

Enjoyed every minute of the book. Unorthodox but effect character. Good to return localities I recognize.

Excellent

I'm a fan of the Pendergast series. I tried this book based on that. I was very pleasantly surprised to find an even better level of writing. I think the new characters reinvigorated the writing team. This is the most enjoyable book I have read in a while. Highly recommended!

Excellent..

What made the experience of listening to Gideon's Sword the most enjoyable?

Preston/Child do it again. Whatever they put together seems to hold me from start to finish. Narration was perfect..paced well and clear.

More of an outline, really.

What would have made Gideon's Sword better?

Character development.

Has Gideon's Sword turned you off from other books in this genre?

No. I do like other books from these same authors but, this is, well, lame.

Have you listened to any of John Glover’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I don't think I have. The performance was not an issue.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment. The book is superficial.

Any additional comments?

Posing as a parent the 'Agent' goes to a private school and says he hears there were a lot of children away last Tuesday. The Principal brings out the attendance records conveniently so the Agent can steal them. Really? Really?

not up to par for the authors

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Not as their first Preston/Child book

Any additional comments?

An interesting tale....but not their best work...though the Co-writing pair are introducing a new lead character...I hope they figure out the new cast..they do not seem to be up to the Pendergast standard

Superb!

The quality that I've come to expect from Preston & Child... the supreme thriller duo!

Great new character

I'm always a little dubious when these authors stray from what I think is their strongest character. But I think they nailed it this time. The story is fast-paced and intelligent. The narrator is new to me, but he did a great job with quick dialogue. I am excited for the next installment.

Good Story

Having listened to many Preston\Child novels, this was the most enjoyable. Why? In many of the novels the narrator was horrible, especially in the Nora Kelly series. The narrator in this book was the very best. I hope he is contracted to read more in this series. I believe he made a very good book better.
