Publisher's summary

In Frankenstein: Lost Souls, Dean Koontz puts a singular twist on this classic tale of ambition and science gone wrong, to forge a new legend uniquely suited to our times. It is a story of revenge, redemption, and the thin line that separates human from inhuman.

The work of creation has begun again. Victor Leben, once Frankenstein, has seen the future — and he’s ready to populate it. Using stem cells, “organic” silicon circuitry, and nanotechnology, he will engender a race of superhumans — the perfect melding of flesh and machine. With a powerful, enigmatic backer and a secret location where the enemies of progress can’t find him, Victor is certain that this time nothing can stop him.

It is up to five people to prove him wrong. In their hands rests nothing less than the survival of humanity itself. They are drawn together in different ways, by omens sinister and wondrous, to the same shattering conclusion: Two years after they saw him die, the man they knew as Victor Helios lives on. As they gather at a small Montana town, old alliances will be renewed and tested, from within and without, for the dangers they face will eclipse any they have yet encountered. Yet in the midst of their peril, love will blossom, and joy, and they will discover sources of strength and perseverance they have not imagined.

They will need them, for a monumental battle is about to commence that will require all their ingenuity and courage, as it defines what we are to be...and if we are to be at all.

Second verse same as the first

The feel of this book is Invasion of the Body Snatchers meets Red Dawn, especially at the church scene at the end... gotta love crazy, gun toting Americans. This series is basically a monster apocalypse story, first told in books 1-3 and then again in books 4 & 5 as Dr. Frankenstein 2.0 resurfaces two years later in Montana with a new playbook. We get to see the old gang get back together, as well as meet several clusters of new players, including a Forrest Gump / jailbird duo, a grandpa / teen duo, and an FBI duo (dunno why the duo thing was a thing). This book takes a while to get going, with the final hour getting back to the pulpy action and fun of the original trilogy. But, this is really only half a book. I’d wait till you’ve gotten both book 4 & 5 on sale before listening to this okay sequel to the outstanding trilogy.

Frankenstein meets Invasion of the Body Snatchers

The series continues with new twists and turns. The end is near but not over yet. I can't wait to hear the conclusion in the next volume.

ummm.. okay

The first book is excellent. Could have ended there. Then the second and third book successfully and believably continued the story. The fourth book is a little drifty.. I mean it's good.. it's just not as good as the first three.
I have already purchased book five (after finishing book two I bought all ) I am not sure if I hadn't already purchased it that I would based on the direction book four took.
I have to say that the narrator is superb.. so very talented. I do intend to look at other books he narrates. Just yummy!

Christopher Lane is genius. Dean Koontz is a master. This makes for an awesome experience.

Too wordy

Too wordy with meaningless information just to fill up pages. I normally like unabridged versions of books, but this entire series could have been shortened into maybe three books or one long Stephen King style. I think it was purposely made extra long for profit. Narrator ok. Overall rating is 3 because of unnecessary details, dialog and wasting the readers’ time. You could go 5-10 minutes and not miss anything of the plot or important information.

Better narration

The narration is better than in the second and third books of the series... Not so over the top.
