I have read the book many times and am now listening to the audio book. I have bought them in audio to listen to in the car, whilst doing chores when i am not in the mood for music and they are so far working out great!
Well, I gave in.
Sick of the hype and the 'you haven't read it?' shock horror, from my women friends, I decided to give E.L. James cash-cow a shot. How bad could it be?
Hmmm. Well. if you take the irritating, mid-atlantic, breathy, twangy narrator out of it, what's left? Not a whole lot I'm afraid.
Boring - the sex.
Tedious - the 'plot' (?)
Cringeworthy - the writing.
Vacuous - the narrator.
A TOTAL waste of my money, and a pain in the (r)ears!
"A must hear"
I have read all the fifty shades books twice and desided to use my free credit in downloading the audio book . I am so glad I did cause once again I was able to sit and become lost in the book. The narrator was easy on the ears and didn't take away from the pleasure of the book . After listerning to the first book I downloaded the others .
If you enjoyed the books then you will love listerning to them
"fifty shades of no!"
I thought I should at least try to listen to this very popular book but I did so with extreme difficulty because I didn't enjoy the subject matter, I found the writing cringeworthy and the reading itself dire. I understand the reason for having an american read the story as it is set in the USA but the accent and style of the reader was execrable, so bad that I just couldn't bear it and gave up about half way through. I should add that I have lived in the States for 2 years and am well used to many US accents and ways of speaking so my dislike is not due to unfamiliarity .
As I don't really care for the subject matter and the writing itself is terrible, I will not try to read the book or any of the sequels.
".review of 50 shades of grey"
I found this a book which belittled women, I did not purchase 2nd and 2rd part.
as I found the first distasteful. Maybe I am old fashioned but certain sex acts are not p8ublic viewing
Still reading the book and it is lovely I don't have any regrets as a result of downloading it. Would love to read it over and over again
"Excellent Telling of this book"
The story line is excellently written and this narration conveyed as much of the emotion, humor and feeling as the printed book when i read it. The way Becca Battoe read this - narrated not acted - was pretty much the way i envisaged it whilst reading it.
The story itself, apart from the sexual content, is a tale about trust, learning and understanding that can be applied to any scenario in life where two people enter into a relationship (business, personal, commercial). Two people can have different views and through hard work, learning, teaching and compromise a great result can be achieved.
I would encourage you to listen (or read) the 2nd and 3rd parts to this story.
Does for literature what the pistols did for music. Good on you EL James I support you all the way but I wont be rushing to read the rest of the series, they may feature on my wish list but purely in support of the process, the book was basically poorly written and not my idea of interesting.
Could not turn it off... listen to it everywhere. .. Great because was able to get on with my eveyday jobs without have to turn page or read words
"50 shades of amazing!"
Thoroughly loved this book when I read it in paperback loved it even more as an audio book! Narration makes the characters come alive.
