"Great Pendergast short story, don't use a credit"

Typically convoluted and fascinating Pendergast short story--great for Halloween or around a campfire. Pay the small price, but don't use a credit, as it is so short. But definitely worth getting!

    "Meh, short storie"
Would you try another book from Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child and/or Rene Auberjonois?

Yes, kinda addicted to this series.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Okay, for a short story, how far can you go in a short time, make sure you've listended to other Pendergast stuff otherwise you wont know the characters.

What does Rene Auberjonois bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Good speaking voice, like listening to an old friend tell a good story

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

    Probably not, too short

    Story
    "Don't waste your money"

I LOVE the Pendergast character, but this is so short and so shallow it is a total waste of time. First, the narration ends a full twenty minutes before the recording does, so the story itself is less than 40 minutes long; its a cheesy trick to sell this as an hour plus recording of a short story. Second, the plot and storyline are so facile, its hard to believe it is written by the same people who wrote RELIC, RELIQUARY, etc. I bought this to tide me over until the next book, but there was nothing there. Nothing.

Has Extraction turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, I love the Agent Pendergast books, but this short story was a little different from the other books and for some reason bothered me. I found it a little too gruesome. Maybe a part of Agent Pendergast's childhood we didn't really need to hear about.

    Any additional comments?

The short story actually only took up about 45 minutes or so of the audio. The last 15 minutes or so were an excerpt from another book. Since it didn't really tell you which one it had no real redeeming value to being added, although it was interesting. All you could glean from it was Pendergast trying to find his wife Helen and what was happening to Helen at the time.

While I hunger for more Agent Pendergast this was a little predictable. The narrator was excellent and the story fair.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

    yes of course!!

What did you like best about this story?

It solves a mystery all Pendergas fans have wondered about.

Have you listened to any of Rene Auberjonois’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Wonderful story telling... I love his honeyed voice.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I didn't realize that this story actually tells the reader what we have always wanted to know.
    I loved it.

    "Non-Story"
    What disappointed you about Extraction?

I double and triple checked to make sure I had not somehow neglected to add the final chapters of this short story.

Calling it a story is an exaggeration since it was at most a snippet of a story. When it abruptly ended I was very surprised since it was such a non-story.

Even at this reduced price this is a rip-off.

What was most disappointing about Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child ’s story?

    It's length

    Story
    "Very Pendergast"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, to anyone who liked Preston/Child's Pendergast series. It is a fun short story with lots of Pendergast atmosphere.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Extraction?

When a young Pendergast finds out he may be mistaken about his younger brother's superstitions.

Which character – as performed by Rene Auberjonois – was your favorite?

    Pendergast

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Be careful of the Tooth Fairy

    Any additional comments?

Has a nice little bonus at the end of an upcoming Pendergast book preview.

    Story
"Audio File has unwanted extra content"
Where does Extraction rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Pendergast is among my favorite characters ever. Short story or long, the authors paint a picture that captures the imagination.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

With a longer story, if you don't catch a detail here or there, you can make it up in context by listening to the rest of the story. Sadly, I missed a detail towards the end and realize the short story was over. This was complicated by the fact that at the end of the story and credits, part of another Pendergast novel plays for about 15 minutes. The middle of one of the other books. Did someone fell asleep at the engineering board and no one has caught it? Is part of it missing?

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I'll give it another listen from beginning to end and it will probably make sense--it will only take about 48 mins--not the 67 mins Audible states.

    Any additional comments?

    Someone please check this.
