Publisher's summary

From number-one New York Times best-selling authors Preston & Child, an all-new short story featuring Agent Pendergast, available only as an ebook and audio download.

In New Orleans' French Quarter, the Tooth Fairy isn't a benevolent sprite who slips money under your pillow at night.... He's a mysterious old recluse who must be appeased with teeth—lest he extract retribution. When young Diogenes Pendergast loses a tooth, however, his skeptical older brother Aloysius is determined to put the legend to the test...with dire consequences.

Don't listen in the dark!

This standalone short story is just the right amount of creepy. terrific narration as well as content: I enjoyed the glimpses into the childhood of the Pendergast boys.

Would you listen to Extraction again? Why?

Yes. "Odo" is really enjoyable to listen to and Preston and Child are two of my favorite writers.

Shorter than advertised

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Definitely a recommended read for Preston/Child fans.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Edge of my seat? Well, no, but it kept my earbuds in my ears. I listened to the entire story in a single go.

Which character – as performed by Rene Auberjonois – was your favorite?

Pendergast is always my favorite. He even showed a little more emotion than usual in this story.

If you could rename Extraction, what would you call it?

The Appeasement

Any additional comments?

My only disappointment was in finding that the actual story was only about 50 minutes long. The remainder of the recording was devoted to the first (second?) chapter of the upcoming novel Two Graves.

Very Pendergast

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, to anyone who liked Preston/Child's Pendergast series. It is a fun short story with lots of Pendergast atmosphere.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Extraction?

When a young Pendergast finds out he may be mistaken about his younger brother's superstitions.

Which character – as performed by Rene Auberjonois – was your favorite?

Pendergast

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Be careful of the Tooth Fairy

Any additional comments?

Has a nice little bonus at the end of an upcoming Pendergast book preview.

Early Pendergast Tale

This was a wonderfully scary story in a classic style, without guts and gore. Implied terror in the style of old Victorian horror, this is a beautifully written frightening tale of an alternative to the tooth fairy. I read this book using immersion reading while listening to the audio book and René Auberjonois of Star Trek Deep Space Nine fame, handled the narration beautifully. A scary treat.

16 minutes?

Quick little story. My disappointment with it was that the story ended and there was 16 minutes randomly taken from another book tacked on to it. Very weird. Kinda felt it was overpriced as the audio was not all the story I thought I was buying.
