Vocal characterization mars this performance

Maybe I'm being too sensitive, but why make the vocal characterization of one of the male lead characters sound so similar to the vocal characterization of the female characters? Both male lead characters or performed essentially the same except when there is actual "spoken" dialogue. Then one is always performed in a way similar to the performance of female characters. This is cringe-worthy at best and homophobic at worst.

Otherwise, a good story.

Loved the narrator. The music at the beginning and end was tacky and unnecessary and mood-ruining tho.

Would you consider the audio edition of Escape Velocity to be better than the print version?

I haven't read the print version, but I had already listened to the authors other audiobook, which was a disappointment. So, I was happily surprised after taking a chance with this book.

What did you like best about this story?

Quite simply, the narration. The story was different and the characters interesting. But the narrator Charles Carr is so very talented and engaging that he made everything better.

What about Charles Carr’s performance did you like?

Charles Carr's performance is immediately engaging. His characterizations sound right, and he makes both the lovers accessible and empathetic. The love scenes are passionate and real.

Who was the most memorable character of Escape Velocity and why?

Sender is a very likeable character with surprising depth. I couldn't help caring about his happiness. Even though we meet Elios first and are set up to see things through his perspective at first, Sender quickly became the one I cared about more. His character goes through more changes and therefore he gains more depth and real empathy.

Any additional comments?

I am VERY disappointed that there are no other books narrated by Charles Carr currently available at audible! Obviously, the narrator can make (or break) a book, especially in this particular genre. I hope more of this narrator's work becomes available soon.

Beautiful Story

Great romance story of a flight instructor that ran away from his bible preaching one man and woman only can love each other planet. Meets a doctor and fall in love. Life is bliss and tragedy happens. This story does have a happily ever after ending. Worth taking the time to listen.

A Surprising and Delightful Sci-fi Romance

I purchased this during a sale event on Audible. I hadn't been looking for it in particular but the story sounded interesting and the price was incredible so why not. I have to say it was worth every penny and then some. I hope the writers continue the story line as it would make a good series. It's a sci-fi romance which is not typical, sci-fi or romance. The furturistic setting enhances the story rather than becoming a main focus. The love story was sweet and believable. It is a love story about two men, but even if you don't normally read LGBT romance you might want to give it a try anyway. It's about falling in love and accepting yourself for who you are and your parents for who they were.

The performance was pretty good. It's not the best narration I've ever heard but the he did a good job of making distict voices for several male and female characters as well as that of a 4 year old girl. I'd certainly listen to something else narrated by him.

Good story

The concept of EV is well thought out and the plot is very interesting. If it didn't not lag in the last half that would have made it better. Great narration

What did you like best about this story?

I loved the story line, the characters, the plot, the narration. I couldn't wait to drive somewhere just so I could continue to listen to it.

What about Charles Carr’s performance did you like?

He read with warmth and enthusiasm and his voices helped me to differentiate between the characters with no second-guessing. I liked the tone of his voice too. He's a great narrator.

These two authors combined to write a top notch book for my enjoyment. I'll be looking for more of their books.

Wow

So this is a gay romance novel. This is the first time I have listened to one. The sex scenes were great, the plot not so much. I guess I was expecting some kind of end point to the book, it seems the authors are setting up for a series but really didn't care about ending this book. Saying that, one of the characters is having a hard time with whole religion/ gay thing. I think some of the issues he faces, are what a lot of gay people have had to face. I thought that maybe this would be a good book for someone who is struggling with the same issues.
