Publisher's summary

That’s the flummoxed state of Edward Stanton, a 42-year-old with Asperger’s syndrome. His job, his therapist, and his best friends are all gone. Even his nightly ritual of watching Dragnet reruns has short-circuited.

But a call from his friend Donna in Idaho, telling him that her son Kyle is in trouble, launches Edward from his rigidly scheduled existence in Billings, Montana, to the open road. He and Kyle, a sweet little boy turned sullen adolescent, debate football, music, and bodily functions (“Why do you pee so much?” Kyle asks). All the while, inspired by dreams of the past, Edward tries to make peace with his life - and when he meets an eccentric motel owner, perhaps open it to love.

Buckle up for a great adventure!

Edward adrift is even better than the first book in the series. I laughed and cried all the way through it and didn’t want the book to end. As always the reader of Edward was phenomenal and made me believe time and time again that Edward was a real person telling me his story. Excellent in every way!

I have been waiting for this book!

What did you love best about Edward Adrift?

Still had the same favor as the first book!

Any additional comments?

I think I still liked the first book better, but this one was a close second. Seemed like it ended kind of fast. Still very enjoyable!

Nice to see Edward again, but...

Any additional comments?

I thought it dragged a bit. I loved the first book, so I'm happy to know how it all ends. I'm even happier I got it as a Kindle Unlimited, so free!

More to love.

Edward is wonderful. If you loved him in his first 600 hours (the first book), you'll LOVE him, in this! (You should listen to the first book before this one.) This is the story of Edward, 3 years after the end of the first book, and how he navigates life & (yes!) love, & finally asserts his sovereignty. I didn't want it to end. Yay, Edward!

The author made me care about edward

What was one of the most memorable moments of Edward Adrift?

Very many memorable moments

Have you listened to any of Luke Daniels’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes. This was just as good a performance as 600 hours of Edward.

Any additional comments?

It was delightful to listen to Edward work through his problems and use the training given him by his counselor.

Very good sequel!

I very much enjoyed this follow up on Edward. At times, I did get a bit tired of the redundancy in his journals but I realized that was part of his condition. Thanks to the author and audible!
I want to add that I appreciate works such as this that bring attention, understanding and therefore, more compassion to people who are "different".

Not what I was expecting

Would you consider the audio edition of Edward Adrift to be better than the print version?

I am not sure if I would enjoy reading this. It was a little odd in the beginning. I might have put it aside if I had not read 3 horrible books before this. I am glad I kept listening. This was an awesome listen.

What other book might you compare Edward Adrift to and why?

Seize the Night and Fear Nothing by Dean Koontz. These were not books I would normally read or listen to but I really enjoyed them.

Which scene was your favorite?

When Edward read the letter from his dad and he and Sheila's relationship.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed a lot. I got a little angry and said some things out loud. This book was very interactive for me.

Any additional comments?

The narrator was great as well.

Edward's Story Continues

Our last month's book club choice was the first book in this series, 600 Hours of Edward and I had hoped to get through the audio version of this sequel in time to discuss it there, but I ran out of time. The book opens up three years after the conclusion of the first book and Edward is having, in his own words, a real "shitburger" of a year. He's lost his great job at the paper (due to cutbacks, not his own actions), Dr. Buckley has retired and Donna and Kyle have moved away - and he has been diagnosed with Type II diabetes! Edward still collects his data, but many other things and routines have changed in his life - he doesn't even watch Dragnet each night anymore!

Whereas in the first book, Edward is rather comfortably friends with nine-year-old Kyle, this book takes Edward also along for a more adolescent stage. He uses more vulgar vocabulary and embarks on some other firsts. The beginning is as as absorbing, because it takes a little time to get used to all of these changes to Edward. But by the end, it is much more engaging.

The audio version is performed by the same man and he continues to do a wonderful job in brining Edward to life. He really nails the tone and personality. I do hope that the series continues - and with this same performer at the helm of the audio! The ending, like the last, is full of promise for brighter and better things for Edward and I just am not ready to say goodbye to him!

A good read

I enjoyed getting in touch with the foibles and adventures of someone with Asperger's syndrome. The book was written in the first person, which was perfect for the job. The reader was believable.

At first I was flummoxed....

What did you love best about Edward Adrift?

about Edward Stanton in this book. I had just finished "600 Hours of Edward" and in "Edward Adrift" Edward seemed to be so much more exuberant (l love the word exuberant). This new Edward with his lively energy was hard to figure out until I got a little further along in the book. I think the narrator, Luke Daniels, did an excellent job of show the listeners the changes Edward was feeling in his life through his narration. When later in the book, Edward thought he wanted to go back to his isolated, regimented (I love the word regimented) life I felt as if the narrator took the lively energy out of his voice to show Edward in a much more complacent (I love the word complacent) place in his life. LOVED this book... LOVED "600 Hours of Edward"... really hope Craig Lancaster finishes a third book about Edward Stanton.
