Can't seem to get enough
The story is truly brought to life with the Narrator. Since I have been listening I have caught myself quoting the story on multiple occasions. The story is brilliant.

Davina Porter is an excellent narrator! she does an amazing job of giving the various characters a distinct voice. if only she could do an American accent for Brianna.

Even Better Than Outlander
While I certainly enjoyed Outlander, I must say that Dragonfly in Amber was even better.
As I said in my initial review of Outlander, I’m not someone who reads books for romance or sexual content. I don’t mind it when it’s well written, but it’s not at all a priority. However, while this book (like Outlander) is certainly anchored by romance, it is also SO much more.
The prose is gorgeous, the characters (big and small) are well-developed, the historical details are meticulously researched (and accurate!), and the story grabs you from the beginning and does not let go.
In fact, even at 39 hours in audiobook, this was one of the best-paced books I have ever read. Not to say it’s always FAST paced, but -well- paced. I was never bored.
Also important to note once again: Davina Porter’s narration of the audiobooks is perfect. I think the only narrators I’ve probably ever enjoyed more are Steven Pacey and Jim Dale. She does all of the accents, and nails both the drama and the humor. Get this one in audio if you can!
In conclusion, I’ll say what I said about Outlander two months ago: this series is not for everyone, but I think it’s probably for a lot -more- people than you might think. It certainly has surprised me!

Second time around was even better than the first!
Love this series, and despite the fact that I swore I would never re-read books or I’ll never get through all the books on my list, I couldn’t resist, and I started over with book one! Seems like the first time around I just couldn’t read fast enough to see what was going to happen next, and this time around I’m doing it differently because I know what’s going to happen and I can leisurely stroll through every paragraph and savor every exquisite moment. And of course, you just don’t get any better than Davina Porter. Every single character is lovingly endowed with their own special voice, and each one is a treasure. I’m all set to begin book 3, second time around, and can’t wait!
