Publisher's summary

A German Shepherd police dog witnesses a murder and if his owner - an Iraq war vet and former cop-turned-thief - is convicted of the crime, the dog could be put down.

Few rival Andy Carpenter's affection for dogs, and he decides to represent the poor canine. As Andy struggles to convince a judge that this dog should be set free, he discovers that the dog and his owner have become involved unwittingly in a case of much greater proportions than the one they've been charged with.

Andy will have to call upon the unique abilities of this ex-police dog to help solve the crime and prevent a catastrophic event from taking place.

David Rosenfelt, a native of Peterson, New Jersey, is a graduate of NYU. He was the former marketing president for Tri-Star Pictures before becoming a writer of novels and screenplays.

Great legal thriller

I love the Andy Carpenter series. The development of the relationships between the main characters, the intrigue of the criminal cases. There is always some suspense. This book is one if my favorites

Don't Buy This Book! Even though it's GRAAAATE!

Don’t buy this book! If… if you have NOT read Rosenfelt’s Andy Carpenter series from the beginning. Okay, this novel sizzles. It’s tightly plotted, the dialogue sparkles, the ensemble cast work tighter together thana Super Bowl defensive line. I reeeeely like these people. And Grover Gardener brings them alive. I cannot imagine anyone else “playing” smart-ass attorney Andy Gardner. Nope… change that… I don’t want to imagine anyone else.

The thing is that while Dog Tags stands alone, it refers back from time to time to cool stuff the characters did in early books. Which might spoil them for you. Soooooo… don’t take the chance.

If you’ve listened to (in order) Open And Shut, First Degree, Dead Center, and Play Dead… well, wuddahell… Get Dog Tags… listen and lovvit. Otherwise… Treat yourself from the beginning and... Don’t buy this book! Kay?

Dog Tags

This is my first David Rosenfelt book. The story was interesting but from the advertisements I had seen I thought there would be more involvement with the dogs. This was primarily a court room drama but at least Milo, the German Shepherd, saved him when the "hit man" attacked him at his home. Grover Gardner did a great job in narrating the story. Over all a pleasant story.
Will keep my eye out for more by both the author and narrator.

This book is just one in a great series!

Would you consider the audio edition of Dog Tags to be better than the print version?

Better? hmmm maybe because I really enjoy Grover Gardner's performance.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Andy Carpenter because I love the way the character thinks.

What about Grover Gardner’s performance did you like?

His delivery of the book makes me laugh out loud. I think his performance makes a wonderful character even more wonderful!

If you could take any character from Dog Tags out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Tara because I think she would be good company!

Any additional comments?

I am a BIG fan of this series and I can't wait for the new one coming out in July. How long before it's available on Audible?

great "read"

Had to wait the extra week to get this book because I wanted the audio version - Grover does a great job of reading Rosenfelts books and adds to the character - won't get that extra reading an ebook.

David's writing is getting better

Any additional comments?

We continue with the Andy Carpenter series because we love the court room drama without the book being too much thriller. There is a lot of humor here! Andy is very funny and he is far from perfect, he is just lovable.

This book has really marked a turning point in David's writing. The story is more thriller, less silly. Don't think this means the humor has gone, it hasn't! But the plot has deepened and David's storytelling is becoming more sophisticated. The less than intense drama/graphic thriller is more up our alley than the book to movie types with intense weapon use.

We really like Andy, Lori and Tara. I once thought Pete was my favorite second level character but I am thinking Sam is now my favorite. Listen on!

Finding an Answer that Can Be Used

Loved Milo!! Missed Kevin. Love Laurie's eagle eye/dead shot. Missed Vince too. This is a stand alone story with different characters for the team

An Easy Book to Listen to and Enjoy

Would you listen to Dog Tags again? Why?

I read and enjoy mystery books of all kinds. This book was a great one to listen to because it was lighter than most and was easy to follow. I like to read or listen to books like this especially after finishing an emotionally charged book. The characters in this book are endearing and the references to animals are enjoyable. Mr. Gardner's narration is especially good. It is easy for me to hear the different characters and their individual personalities come through. This is the third book I have listened to by David Rosenfelt and I have enjoyed them all. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys mysteries or stories involving animals.
