Publisher's summary

Ex-cop Henry Shore has been Chief Park Ranger at Crater Lake National Park for eight years and he likes his park and his life the way it's been. Safe. Tranquil. Predictable. But he's about to be tested in so many ways. First the earthquakes begin, people begin to go missing, then there's some mysterious water creature that's taken up residence in the caves below Crater Lake and it's not only growing in size, it's aggressive and cunning and very hungry.

And it's decided it likes human beings. To eat.

And it can come up onto land.

So Henry, with the help of his wife, Ann; a young paleontologist named Justin; and a band of brave men, must not only protect his park and his people from the monster but somehow find where it lives and destroy it before it can kill again.

very interesting

To me this is completely a feasible type of storyline. Cause I do believe that There are several ways that this could actually happen. Underground caverns and caves have always been a mystery to this Earth. And her story line kept you on the edge of the seat of how this might come to an end. It came from the warmth of the Volcano and was killed by that blessed Bay

Fun and exciting dinosaur adventure!

If you could sum up Dinosaur Lake in three words, what would they be?

Dinosaurs are Awesome!

What did you like best about this story?

The story was a straightforward adventure, not a lot of over done military weapons or insane carnage. I also liked the characters, and the setting was wonderful. I appreciate the lack of bad language and explicit sex scenes too.

Have you listened to any of Johnnie C. Hayes’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No I haven't, but I would definitely listen to another one. His "down home" style was perfect.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

There's Something in Crater Lake ... and it's Hungry!

Any additional comments?

I'm looking forward to the next book in the series, which I already own.

Scary good!

Purchased as Whispersync on the cheap courtesy of EBooksHabit.
I have several works by this author, and bought this because I was delighted to get one of her books so cheaply, a real win-win!
Great lead-in and mood setting, characters established early and well. Characters are well developed and there is no problem relating to the reactions and dilemmas of each. The plot is well developed and nicely paced with some really good plot twists.
Narrator expands upon the characters and is an excellent audio performer.

Loved this book!

This isn't my first read by Kathryn Meyer Griffith and there hasn't been a book yet by her that I didn't love, but this book was even beyond my expectations. it is a fantastic read! The plot is fantastic and the danger, suspense, horror (not too bad), thriller kept me on the edge of my seat. The author has such a way with words. It is a clean book and can be enjoyed by the entire family.

Henry, an ex-cop, was shot in the line of duty and decided to swap his career to something not so dangerous. Henry is now the Chief Park Ranger for the Crater Lake Park Forest Preserve. His wife Ann works for the local newspaper and is thrilled with their quiet life. Then one day the unimaginable happened and no one believed it....

One old man who runs a tour boat for a living on Crater Lake was carrying on about a monster in the lake. It is huge he says, 50 feet tall. This is far too crazy to be true, so everyone just thinks he is crazy. Then it happened. The old man and his boat disappeared. All that was left was wreckage on the lake floating. Then another tour boat is found as wreckage too with the owner gone. Henry and another guy spend the night on the lake and suddenly they are being attacked. The thing went under the boat and lifted them way up in the air. How can this be? And then came the earthquakes...

The author, Kathryn Meyer Griffith really had me on the edge of my seat! Her words and the way she wrote them made me feel like I was really there seeing it all unfold. My favorite memory of this book was when she was describing the underwater caverns, like a labyrinth with the flowing lava and the beauty of the sparkling lights reflecting the lava in the cave walls. It was so clear in my mind. The narrator, Johnnie C Hayes did a great job delivering this story to us with loads of danger and emotions and all his voices. Great job, both of you!

For lovers of Jurassic Park!

Would you listen to Dinosaur Lake again? Why?

Probably, it's entertaining. A nice change if pace from our usual car sounds.

What other book might you compare Dinosaur Lake to and why?

Jurassic Park. It's all about a crafty dinosaur that likes to eat people, as many of the Dino's in JP were wont to do.

What about Johnnie C. Hayes’s performance did you like?

He has this grandfatherly voice, like Wilfred Brimley, or the patriarch of the Walton family, that appeals to something deep inside my lizard brain.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When George sacrificed himself to save Ann. That one stuck with me.

Any additional comments?

Just that this was a great listen. The beginning was a little slow, but the author more than made up for that a little later in the book.

Good Escape Listening.

If you could sum up Dinosaur Lake in three words, what would they be?

Entertaining, light, fun.

Which scene was your favorite?

I loved the descriptions of Crater Lake and the Park. The book is not particularly deep or wet your pants thrilling but if you're looking to suspend reality and be entertained by a lake monster for a few hours this will fit the bill. If you read the description and think you might be interested you probably won't be disappointed. The writing and narration are good.

Dinosaur Lake

Any additional comments?

Dinosaur Lake is an exciting and frightening story that places big and powerful dinosaur never before discovered right in the park's midst. This violent creature must survive and has discovered that those screaming, silly little humans make great nourishment..It reminds me of Jurasick Park.

FUN & SCARY DINOSAUR TALE

This was a completely light, fun "horror" story about a monster/dinosaur at Crater Lake! I've been there twice, and it's one of the most beautiful places I'd ever seen. Thought I never thought much about what could lurk beneath the chilly waters of Crater Lake! OMG we could have been killed! Dinosaurs, they're nothing to mess with. THEY. EAT. PEOPLE. Ahahahahahah!!!

Loved this book, was fun to listen to, great story and narration, fun characters. Scary, but not TOO scary, but an all around good time! :)

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Enjoyable listen

I truly enjoyed this book and fully intend to listen to the whole series as well as look into other books by Kathryn Meyer Griffith. I have read Michael Crichton’s Jurassic Park twice, listened to the audiobook a further 3 times, read the Lost World sequel two times & listened to it twice. There is a distinct lack of “Dino-thrillers” in the world and I was elated to find this series! The story was compelling and being from Oregon myself it was fun to have places that I am familiar with be featured in an adventure. The narrator has a calm, pleasant, mature voice that complements the main character nicely. The writing was rather repetitive in places and there were a few errors I noticed (for instance, the town of John Day is written as “John Days”) Also I was a little annoyed by a couple of political rants that were entirely unnecessary. Even where I agreed with what she was saying, there is no reason to stop the story to get on a political soap box... it was like changing the channel in the middle the Jurassic Park movie, watching a CNN morning show for a few minutes, then switching back to JP. Adult content was pretty mild for the genre, which was nice. There were some swear words but not superfluous and no f-bombs. The gore was tactfully handled and no explicit sex (one married couple is stated to “make love”). All of the “good guys” are likable people with realistic strengths & weaknesses and they support each other’s foibles with patience.
