Publisher's summary

A prison doctor injects a condemned serial killer with a formula designed to keep his consciousness awake while his body rots in the grave. But all drugs have unforeseen side-effects. Before he can be buried, the killer wakes up. Hungry. Infected. Contagious. This is the way the world ends. Not with a bang… but a bite.

Not Maberry's

I love Maberry's Joe Ledger series and I've listened to them more than once. This book is just okay. The story is the reaction of each and every one of the small town's citizens reaction to the fact of zombies in the town. EVERY SINGLE PERSON. The book moves slow because we have to know what every person thinks about seeing the impossible. I don't think I'll finish it.

Maberry does it again...!!!

Would you listen to Dead of Night again? Why?

Sure would, it kept me on the edge of my seat and pulled me in looking for more!

What other book might you compare Dead of Night to and why?

Ghost Road Blues. Another great novel and listen I might add. Love his take on the Zombie apocalypse.

What does William Dufris bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His inflection of each character and how he brings them to life in your head.

Who was the most memorable character of Dead of Night and why?

Dez Fox of course.. A woman who has many issues but can still fight through them and kick some zombie butt...!

Any additional comments?

Jonathan Maberry is an excellent writer and I just hope he keeps his novels coming!
Thank you Mr. Maberry for making the long journeys in the car more enjoyable!

worst narrator I've ever listened to.

I think the story was written well. It has a good story line that keeps you interested and characters you care about. The narration on the other hand was very hard to listen to, maybe if the guy was acting out a love story or some kind of romantic nonsense he would be ok. But not a zombie story or anything like it.

Average work for Maberry

I like the Ledger series much better. Can't wait for the new installment of Joe.

Too Much, Too Little

I have always liked Mr. Maberry's novels, most of them anyway. In Dead of Night I became tired of it about two-thirds through the book- something that has never happened previously with this author. The story merely kept repeating itself. There became to little of the story line as it went on. It felt as though I was listening to the trailer, with a few exceptions, over and over again. The many action zombie killing descriptions were in themselves moderately repetitive. How many ways can you shoot a zombie in the head and does it really make any difference if you use a 12 gauge shotgun, a auto fire military weapon or a Glock handgun? I felt there was a bit more gore than was necessary. In my opinion this was not one of Jonathan Maberry's best endeavors. Maybe I'll revisit Joe Ledger.

Raw... terrifying ride through a zombie hellscape!

This was my first zombie novel and let me tell you, it really blew me away, I couldn't stop listening!

Both the story and the performance had me on the edge of my chair, slack jawed with a million mile stare, and WANTING MORE!

Don't pass this this one by because it... will consume you.

Can't get enough of this author

I really should pick up a few books from other authors in between my readings of this one. But I find myself wanting to consume one Jonathan Maberry novel after another. Next up, the sequel to this one!

Imaginative, full of action, wonderful narration

I REALLY enjoyed this book. The story took off right away and the action never stopped.
I especially like the way the author takes us through the step by step beginnings of the zombie plague. The concept behind how the plague begins was really quite clever. The characters were really well thought out, if not sometimes a little cliche (but I didn't mind that so much). If you like graphic, action packed, gory, fast paced zombie stories, this book will not disappoint. I enjoyed the narrator a lot. I became a fan of his from his reading of Replay, so when I saw that he was reading this book, I was immediately sold.
