Very neat story

A fun romp of a very different nature for Moore. The characters are very interesting and funny. Just enough ancient folks tale spun with a modern twist.

You Can't Go Wrong with Moore

This early work of Moore's contains everything I've grown to love about his work: fast pace, well-drawn characters, and laugh out loud moments. Just as he has successfully played with the Bible and Shakespeare, here he plays with the great Crow traditions and stories. As the book moved forward, I became more and more engrossed, waiting for my daily walk to see what would happen to the hapless Sam, stuck at the center of a Crow God's whirlwind of a tour through contemporary California. If you are a fan of Moore, you can't miss this one. If you are new, welcome!

Finally got to it--worth the effort

I've listened to almost all of CM's other works, but for some reason avoided this one. The description just didn't grab me...don't know why. Maybe it was a fear of the author's "initial effort" and concern that he had just recently honed his craft to the fine edge that it is. Not to worry. I loved this one as much as some of the other lighter works. It can't stand up to Fool or Lamb, or probably not even Fluke (IMHO), but it had heft. It was funny, charming, witty, a little wacky; in short, all the good stuff that Moore has shown he is capable of in his later works. The age of the book makes a few isolated references dated, but you can hardly notice. A strong recommend, even if you choose it as your first one. Good character crossover, BTW, between many of the books, starting with this one.

Howling good!

Would you consider the audio edition of Coyote Blue to be better than the print version?

Not sure about the print version, but this is a good listen. You just have to pay attention

Who was your favorite character and why?

Pokey because he reminds me of my grandfather, who was a Choctaw indian

Which scene was your favorite?

when coyote lost his ass

If you could take any character from Coyote Blue out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Coyote,of course.....for a game of wits!

Any additional comments?

Just an entertaining listen. But you much pay close attention, or you will get lost

Fabulous Adventure!

I loved this tale of a hapless hero who wins it all in the end

Minty Fresh is back!F

Coyote is a God more interested in the stories his people tell about them than about them. No part of the book takes place in San Francisco and missing is the Emperor of San Francisco. "Also missing is the phrase heinous blank most foul. The Emperor of San Francisco is also missing from this book. The reader has no idea about the timeframe. For example, does, this book take place before or after A Dirty Job?"

took awhile

I like Moore's books but this one took awhile to get going. I almost gave up before it got interesting in the classic Moore style. Not sure if was the narrator, who also seemed a little bored until the story picked up.
The Minty Fresh character tie in from Dirty Job was intriguing but felt unfinished.

Early Moore

Narrator did a very good job. Good Moore story but not up to his later books. Still a good listen and I recommend the audiobook.

Not Enough Agency

My only disappointment with this story is that the main character was more along for a ride than in control of his own destiny. He was not his own savior enough. However, Minty Fresh was very cool.
