"Essie's journey is touching, funny, and refreshingly atypical ..." (Library Journal)
I wasn't very impressed with this book. The author would get the reader involved with a character and then toss them aside for a new one. In the end it leaves the reader disappointed. This could have been a very good story but in the end I felt disappointment.
This book was wonderful. This christian ethical romance was so so refreshing, I will download other books by the same author. I could not stop listening. I even listened in the shortest of trips!
I just loved this book. The narrator, Danielle Ferland, was absolutely perfect. To enjoy this book; you have to let go of judgment of the times; and just appreciate the wonderful Essie, the heroine, and her path to her own liberation. And, liberation does come in the end; as she learns to trust in her inner knowing (call it what you will). Though it is written in the spirit of Christianity, you can use your own spiritual path to rejoice in Essie's finding and trusting her inner voice. The ending is awesome!
the book was just cute, loved the little orphan boy! make me laugh I could just picture him, he was so precious
closeness she drew with God, even though she did things she should not have, she got forgiveness and was a better person for it, heartwarming!
no but I will now, really enjoyed her reading!
my life~ i could see myself in her all the way through
looking forward to her next book, can wait to get started!
Not your typical love story where everything always works out with the happy couple in the end but well written and interesting anyways. I cringed as I listened, knowing what was coming. unfortunately most girls have to live and learn the hard way.
The novel Courting Trouble is one of the best books I've read lately. It had a real life feel to it and yet maintained higher standards for those in the story who claimed to be Christians. I liked the way the relationship with the parents worked out. I just cannot recommend this novel more. Excellent!
Not typical, as another reviewer noted. What happens to Essie, her choices, and her motivations are the same for women today. But Essie soars above it all, especially in the end. Gist has written an engaging heroine. Excellent narration, too.
The story was very dull and the narrator was completely distracting. I managed to listen to the end - and it becomes a completely different story. I do not recommend.
