Inspired by the experiences of a decorated combat veteran and former member of the 82nd Airborne Division, Clear by Fire is a blistering new military thriller about an American hero who, in order to clear his name, must take down a highly classified band of soldiers that has gone murderously rogue.
Mason Kane was a loyal American soldier and a proud member of the elite, off-the-books Anvil Program - a group of black ops soldiers who wage war from the shadows. But all that changed when his commander, as a part of a twisted scheme to force America's continued involvement in the Middle East, ordered an innocent Afghan family murdered.
Refusing the order, Mason finds himself on the run, hunted by his former comrades and labeled a terrorist by the country he served faithfully. Relying only on his survival skills and the help of female Special Operations operative Renee Hart, Kane must embark on his gravest mission yet: unraveling the conspiracy that reaches all way to the president's inner circle and stopping the world's most dangerous soldiers from completing their treacherous plan.
Set in the shadows of the war on terror, this realistic, action-packed adventure puts a twist on the traditional military thriller and starts a brand-new series that fans of Brad Thor and Brad Taylor will love.

Joshua Hood hit this ball out of the park! A home run thriller!!!!! It is fast paced and auctioned packed that just keeps heating up as the book progresses! I'll be reading this one more than once :)
I actually know Mr. Hood through an online forum for thriller fans and aspiring writers so my review might seem a bit biased. With all that being said, let me say first that Mr Hood does a fantastic job avoiding many of the clichés found in many military thrillers.
Mason Kane isn't your typical patriotic action hero who always knows right from wrong, but rather a man who is walking a path of redemption. Literary snobs might complain that his character isn't that well developed yet but keep in mind that this is only the first book in what will hopefully be A very successful franchise for years to come. The narration was pretty good for the most part, though a little long winded sounding at times. Can't wait for the next book which is set to release in Summer of 2016.
Clear By Fire is the first in a new series from new author Joshua Hood. Great lead character Mason Kane, but a big plus is a tough female named Renne. I got the Kindle version and the audio so I could switch back and forth.
Grab a copy, you won't be sorry!!
After reading/listening to over 345 books its rare to find a GEM! Joshua Hood is veteran of our Special Forces and it show's in his writing style. Well written perfectly researched and a bit of humor well placed throughout this book.
John Pruden does a great job.
Hood's descriptions of battlefield action makes other authors in this genre look like amateurs. This series has a ton of potential, can't wait for the next one.
The book was okay. I am not sure it would be an excited recommendation
The last half of the book when the author began giving his characters personality
Verisitale, clear, and warm
The last half of the book
The first 1/3 to 1/2 of the book is hard to follow. As in many novels there are multiple events happening that will be pulled together or nearly so at the climax. However, in this novel it takes far longer requiring the listener to persevere and try to keep track of a myriad of apparently unrelated characters and stories lines straight. Once the treads or story lines start to be pulled together the novel becomes much more enjoyable.. It also isn't until more than 1/2 way through the book we are given an opportunity to know the personality of the male lead. Once the character was developed and some of the threads pulled together the story and characters were quite enjoyable. The humor was well done. It was almost as if there were 2 writers, the first half and the second. It is clear at the end that there are plans for more in this series and I think there is real promise to build adventures around the key characters. This book was good enough that when the next comes out I will give it a try.
So many flashbacks that half the time I had to relisten to find out who was talking
Joshua Hood is just beginning what promises to be a great career as a thriller writer. Hood's character of Mason Kane has the gritty feel of someone who's been through it all but still isn't finished. Renee Hart has been set up as the perfect partner and politically connected ally. I eagerly look forward to the next book.
