Audible Editor Reviews

Edgar Allen Poe, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Bret Harte, and others present Classic Detective Stories, Volume 2, a collection of tales about sleuths, clues, dames, and of course bad guys. A variety of talented audio artists bring these mysterious short stories to life. A different performer tackles each adventure, tailoring his voice and pace adeptly to the piece's tone. Some performances are haunting, some suspenseful, and some quite grave. Overall, this collection is exhilarating for any fan of the traditional detective story.

    Any additional comments?

Some truly great stories have been murdered by absolutely awful performances.
I m quite sure any (free) Librivox version would be superior to the very best performance in this audiobook.

    "Oh dear"

I could just cut and paste the review I did of the first volume. The readers do not get better, if anything it is more grating now you know what you are waiting for, a bit like waiting for the dentist to put cold water on that sensitive tooth. So here is most of that first review...Some of the greatest detective stories mangled by poor reading. Almost without fail the readers demonstrate a lack of understanding of where emphasis should be placed, to the point of implying that they do not understand the story. Accents are equally appalling. My fault for buying without listening to the sample, had I realised how bad the readers were I would not have purchased. Be warned.
