Publisher's summary

Maggie Beaumont's luck is about to change. Sure, she's known for her bad romantic choices-her former boyfriend broke up with her by bringing his new girlfriend home for a visit. And then there was the crush she had on a gorgeous young Irishman, who turned out to be Father Tim, the parish's new priest. But romantic salvation has arrived in the form of handsome, if surly, fisherman Malone. It turns out there's a heart of gold underneath his barnacle-clad exterior. Will this catch of the day turn into the dish of a lifetime?

Really great!!

LMAO at the bowling scene. Quick wit had me laughing throughout and even shed some tears. Could have been a little steamier in the romance department but actually didn't even notice the lack of just because I was too caught up in the story. Totally enjoyed. Can't wait for the next one.

Dismal after The Best Man

Ok, so how do you fall in love with a guy that doesn't say more than....um.... 3 words in any given sentence? AND that is just my first of oh-so-many-dissapointments about this book.

Very well written, and freaking fantastic narrator! I love her. really good. PLUS i loved The Best Man- so I was primed to love this book to- PLUS being a golden retriever lover.

But nooooo....I don't want to ruin it, but lets just say that i was moved to extremely sad tears (read here: NOT HAPPY) at one part of the book. While the first part is fun and reading about her Dating disasters is quite hilarious- I just kept thinking, OK ....where is the more!? Where is the great guy, or the quiet guy comes out of the shell, or i donno, SOMETHING! but wait.... nothing.

Well let me tell you about that more- sitting here with just an hour and 11 minutes left of the book, i'm still holding out hope for something to turn around. Which I know, because i love this genre of books, that it will work out- i have not particularly enjoyed the ride. I keep waiting for her lot to get better, but so far- no resolution. I mean this book better have the best freaking fantastic ever ending to redeem itself!

Usually when reading this genre you know that something has to turn for the worst and then resolve. Yet, 80% of this book is for the worst. I mean, it gets ultra crappy for our dear sweet heroine (which is, kinda annoying to be honest.)

But anyways, this will definitely NOT be in my reread list. Although, it must be said, that i've been up since 3am listening to it... THAT should tell you how much hope i had for it. I just kept waiting for it to get better. So steer clear if you love SEP, or Lisa Kleypas, etc. Plus the romance left a lot to be desired. just saying.

It really pains me to rate this this way....

Ok so it really pains me to have to write my review this way since there were so many things I enjoyed about this book, but I have to give it the most solid 3 ever.

The Good: Narration is superb! The main character Maggie is hysterical, lovable, energetic, and pretty (well almost) normal. There were many touching, realistic scenes that could honestly happen to either one of us. The writing is phenomenal and funny as heck.

The Bad: Why the heck did the male interest not speak but like 4 times in the entire book? There was nothing to fall in love with and I mean even a grouch speaks to someone at least once a day.

I have to agree with another reviewer I read because while everything else lined up for a great novel, the actual supposed romance robbed the book from a 5 star rating. Dang they could have given more as far as a leading man was concerned.

Laugh out loud love story

If you could sum up Catch of the Day in three words, what would they be?

Funny, light-hearted, sweet

What did you like best about this story?

The fact that is was a heart warming story that made me laugh out loud at times. Maggie was a completely likeble character with all the faults and insecurities all women have. And how she was able to shrug off the embarassing moments of her life with dignity made me admire her.

Which scene was your favorite?

I think all the dating scenes. Brings me back to when I was dating.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

One scene made me cry but for the most part I laughed out loud.

Any additional comments?

I am now an official Kristan Higgins fan and cannot wait for more of her books to be released on audio.

Started Off Promising...

Any additional comments?

The start of this book was really good and it went downhill from there. I wouldn't even consider this a romance book but more of a novel. The second half of the download didn't even have any romance in it. I really liked the first half, the way the relationships were written and the comedy. The rest of it was a little boring. Malone and Maggie's relationship, if you can call it that, was only a little smidgen of the book. There should have been more of this relationship in the book, especially considering Maggie is the main character. It was really lacking and could have made this book great. It was worth three stars though, because the part about Colonel was so real, the love she had for him, it made me cry.

The narration was amazing. I absolutely loved it. It's what got me through the second part. I'm glad it was a special $4.95 book and I didn't have to use a credit for it.

I laughed, I Cried

Any additional comments?

I loved this book, so much that I will probably listen to it again. The narrator was perfect she is what made this book so funny. I laughed out loud a few times and yes there was a part I cried. Good story line and the characters were so real and I liked them all. I highly reccomend this book.

Worst book ever

There is nothing good about this story. I would not recommend it for anyone, even fans of the author.

Loved it!

Catch of the Day by Kristan Higgins (Audio Edition)
Narrated by Xe Sands
Gideon’s Cove #1

5 Stars - Why-oh-why did I wait so long to read this book! I let a few negative reviews hold me back.. so silly of me! Kristan Higgins always delivers! And pairing that with the excellent narration of Xe Sands!!! It's a big win in my book!

This story is written in first person and therefore you don't get to see much of Malone’s point of view.. but as much as I love hearing the hero’s side of it, this doesn't detract from the sparks factor. The minute Malone is in the scene goosebumps breakout down my arms.. ooh yeah!

Now Maggie did do a couple of odd things in this story.. which personally, I would never do.. but hey, each to their own right?? She has a twin sister and I love, Love, LOVE it when their “mate” is the only person that can tell them apart!! Malone was a man of very few words but he still made his presence known. I am just left sighing here while I write this.

On a side note… Xe Sands has one of the sexiest male voices ever, and considering she's a woman.. I just gotta say well done! I love her narrations.

Disappointing

The story was a little weird...the main love interest never says more than maybe 30 phrases the entire book, and I found myself left unsatisfied. I kept expecting the author to give him a little more play, at least a few more scenes with Maggie, the main character, so we could get to know him. But we're left with just a few grunts here and there and the surrounding story was just ok. The whole storyline about Father Tim was just weird too. I could summarize this book as "desperate woman falls in love with guy who doesn't talk to her or treat her very well, but he's hot and the only one available so why not." Not one of Higgins better books, in my opinion.

First Thought when Finished: Catch of the Day by Kristan Higgans was delightfully funny and a good summertime read! This was my second Kristan Higgans book and I have now moved her to my limited contemporary romance romance list. She makes me laugh.

Xe did a fantastic job with Catch of the Day. I had fun listening to her nail the humor and making me swoon.
