Publisher's summary

George MacDonald Fraser, author of the Flashman novels, praises this hearty saga as "one of the great unrecognized novels of the 20th century." Doctor Peter Blood's quiet life is shattered when he is convicted of treason for helping a wounded nobleman in the 1685 rebellion against King James II.
He's swept into a slave ship to Barbados but escapes from slavery and a brutal plantation owner during a Spanish Pirate attack. He becomes a pirate and before long becomes the greatest buccaneer of them all. Raids, sea battles, sword fights, acts of gallantry and low cunning follow, recounted with zest and skill by a natural-born storyteller.

Better than the movie with Errol Flynn

Very enjoyable. Loved the reader's impression of Captain Blood, with his cool wit and irish accent. Great stuff.

WORTH A CREDIT! Not a Five Star, but …

… but if graded purely on the power to give a reader joy then I have to give it a 4.5.

My #1: Action, Adventure, & Romance

Where does Captain Blood rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I have listened to Captain Blood no less than four times; two of those times I still had audio books in my library that I had not listened to yet. It is safe to say this is my favorite book.

What does Robert Whitfield bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Until I got the audio-book, my only exposure to Captain Blood was through the Errol Flynn classic based on the book. It may sound strange but I never thought of Peter Blood with an Irish accent. Robert Whitfield's portrayal of the character was superb.

Any additional comments?

As I said, I was introduced to Captain Blood through the 1935 film. I was surprised how faithful the movie was to the book. Of course there are differences but each time I saw a difference I thought the book was better. If you're a fan of the film you'll love this book.

Witty, clever, intelligent writing

Second time I’ve listened to Captain Blood. Great narration, transported myself into the book with characters as if were one of the buccaneers

This was a lot of fun.

The narrator does a great job reading and performing each character. And the story is fun and lighthearted.

Loved the Book and Reader

Pirates! Well written fiction that will tickle your adventure bone. If you don't like slower stories don't try this one. It will not always be a thriller every single second. But if you like a well-paced adventure then listen away!

Really good reader!!!

Great story great narration

This was a very good story. The narrator read it very well, especially the wide variety of differing accents.
