Publisher's summary

A classic tale of adventure and romance, Rafael Sabatini's Captain Blood tells the story of Peter Blood, doctor and military veteran, who is mistaken for a rebel, arrested, tried, and transported to Barbados, where he is sold into slavery.

Escaping his captivity during a raid on the colony, Blood and his fellow convicts capture a Spanish ship and sail off to become the most successful pirates in the Caribbean.

Captain Blood is Sabatini at his very best, succeeding as both an adventure novel and powerful discourse on the evils of slavery and injustice.

that narrator though...

wanted to listen to this after Treasure Island, I somehow made it 4 hours in, however I just can't seem to bring myself to go any further. The narrator is excessively enthusiastic in telling the story, to the point of being overbearing. I just can't listen to it anymore. It's like listening to someone on coke talk about their favorite subject.

Sabatini Made Entertaining

I've been a fan of Rafael Sabatini since high school. For me, his endless imagination and plotting his adventures were always fun...like a jigsaw puzzle to figure out...Now as I say this, Mr. Sabatini is not always easy to read, either. He can be quite thick in description for some, although if you love words as I do, you revel in how many different ways he can describe the same scene in various parts of a novel. CAPTAIN BLOOD is great at that.

The reader here is the marvelous Kevin Theis, who has developed into one of the best audio actor/readers around. His clipped, articulate tone...his interest in giving every sentence the proper weight and attention...and here, in his obvious love for the author, Mr. Theis puts us on his vocal ship and steers us expertly through the challenges of Peter Blood. And on occasion, you actually find yourself as a fly on the wall, wishing you were sailing with the crew. It's a ride anyone would enjoy, once they allow themselves the pleasure of such a professional, enjoyable audio experience.

Mr. Theis is among the best. His captivating read of CAPTAIN BLOOD will make you become a fan, as I have.

Imaginative and an epic tale

I could not stop listening and did not want it to end. I’m now working through more of mr. Sabatini’s tales for comparable works. Just so good. Can’t believe I haven’t came across this sooner!
