The best book that I have listened on audible so far!
Truly love this book! It is one of those books which I can count with both hands that have deeply touched me and will stay with me for a long long time. The two narrators each did an amazing job! Their performances made the book even better!

Took some patience but worth it in the end
I found the story got more engrossing as I got into it - quite a slow start. I also found that it helped to increase the speed to 1.2x. Before that I found the narration of the Isabelle chapters to be unbearably slow. I agree with the reviews that cite some stereotypical aspects to the characters, but there were enough unexpected plot twists to keep me from feeling they took over. There were surprises along the way and I found it very moving by the end. It also seems important to keep telling these kinds of stories lest we ever lose sight of history and how it still informs the present.

Excellent book
It took awhile for me to get into this book, but once I did, I couldn’t stop listening. Wonderful writing. Fully developed characters. A shameful part of our history told through the eyes of one couple. How will today’s shameful actions be written about in 50 years?
