Publisher's summary

What if you went to a school where it was actually all right to be who you really are? That's the enchanting place David Levithan has created in his highly acclaimed first novel. But even if the gay kids and the straight kids all get along just fine, even if it's all right for the quarterback to be a cross dresser named Infinite Darlene and the cheerleaders to ride Harleys into the pep rally, the road to true love is still a strange and winding path, as Paul discovers when he meets the boy of his dreams. Charming, funny, delightful, and utterly heartwarming, this YA novel speaks with clarity and depth about our need to love and be loved.

Critic reviews

"In its blithe acceptance and celebration of human differences, this is arguably the most important gay novel since Nancy Garden's Annie on My Mind." (Booklist)
"Levithan's prophecy of a hate-free world in which everyone loves without persecution makes this a provocative and important read for all young adults, gay or straight." (School Library Journal)

Fantastic!

This romantic comedy is worth the read, or in my case, the listen. Amazing story preformed by extremely talented young people. I wish all high schools cold be like Paul's school and all towns like his hometown. Paul's family rocks. I laughed. I shed a few tears. I learned more about the struggle my chill had to go through. Read this book.

No words can describe how amazing this book is.

I have previously read the book a few year back not once but twice because it was that good. i remember falling so deeply in love with it but when rediscovering it on audible and listening to the narration and the music made me fall in a deeo love with the book all over again that pain of first love being retold to me in such a magnificent form. i couldn't help but smile and cry during the whole book i would gladly listen to this a hundred more times.

A Resplendent Novel Beautifully Performed

David Levithan's novel Boy Meets Boy simply imagines what life would be like in an American suburb for high school students if there was no homophobia. It is a novel of heightened love, wonder, moral responsibility, grief, and transformation. In other words, it contains all the experiences that encompass the sentimental education of youth. The full cast audio family performs the novel with taste and style. As a theologian and Christian pastoral counselor, I didn't find any moral relativism in the text. The protagonist Paul, is a deeply moral young man, deeply concerned about right action and responsibility toward those he loves. If a reader has a problem with gay folks embracing their sexuality with joy, that person will have a problem with the book. But then, I've always seen a world without prejudice and unnecessary shame as the goal of divine immanence and true religion. A world in which we are accountable to God in our best selves, rather than to the shame and fear foisted on us by unnecessary fundamentalisms. David Levithan describes such a world, and one day, if we are blessed, we may find ourselves living in it. It was good, however, to visit it through such an excellent production. I unreservedly recommend it.

A wonderful and touching book

Boy Meets Boy is a sweet, funny and moving story set in the Sophmore year of the protagonist, Paul. Paul likes Noah and Noah likes Paul, but everything conspires to try and keep the two apart.

David Levithan has written a story that manages, in the most pleasing way to paint a picture of the world as it should be.

The recording on Audible is a "full cast" production with different actors for each character; the recoding is extremely well done and engaging.

This is a wonderful book that will appeal to both young and old. I loved and I highly recommend it.

Fantasy, but fun

I enjoyed this book for its break from reality, and I didn't think about it for anything but fantastical imaginings, until I heard the interview afterwards, in which the producer talked to the voice actors. It seems the producer, an older man, actually thought that the school system might be this way. He actually thought there was the possibility that the American school system would tolerate boy crushes held out in the open, and lesbians holding hands in the halls.
It seems obvious to me that there was litle research for this book done in actual high schools, where acceptance does not happen as a general rule. Also, these kids all seemed remarkably in touch with gay culture from the 90's, when they would all have been about 5, which struck me as unlikely. But hey, if you're going in for fantasy, why not?

WONDERFUL!

This book had been in my radar for a long time but I thought it was too young for me (I'm 46) I only got it because it is in the Romance package so it was risk free for me, if I didn't like it I could drop it without wasting a credit or money. I LOVED IT. It is the kind of book that makes you happy, that gives you hope, that shows you how the world can be if we just open our mind and love people for who they are. It is the kind of book you know you are going to want to read again and you want your children to read it, and your husband, and your friends. Give it a try, you won't regret it.

Heart Warming

It takes the standard "boy meets girl" romcom and places it in a atmosphere where changing it to "boy meets boy" doesn't twist much. Homophobia really isn't a core issue, which is very refreshing and so so neat for a LGBT book. Combined with the amazing performance, it really makes you think about the world we live in today and how we can make it better. You just have to smile at how fantastical it all is.
