Publisher's summary

Author of the National Book Award-winning All the Pretty Horses, Cormac McCarthy is one of the most provocative American stylists to emerge in the last century. The striking novel Blood Meridian offers an unflinching narrative of the brutality that accompanied the push west on the 1850s Texas frontier.

Critic reviews

“The authentic American apocalyptic novel…I venture that no other living American novelist, not even Pynchon, has given us a book as strong and memorable as Blood Meridian.” (Harold Bloom)
"McCarthy is a writer to be read, to be admired, and quite honestly envied." (Ralph Ellison)
"McCarthy is a born narrator, and his writing has, line by line, the stab of actuality. He is here to stay." (Robert Penn Warren)

Awesome! A great listen & study of the early west.

Sometimes brutal but very realistic and exciting. Tests the limits of human beings & show their brutality.

A vivid tale of chaos and violence

Surreal and potent in its telling. Voiced with a breathless awe of the material. Prose to match the highest poetry.

McCarthy extends the boundaries of macabre.

Very few who have passed through our times could create such an unsettling yet historical experience. Hard to listen through parts yet impossible to stop. Bravo! Beautifully narrated.

Amazing

My first experience with author. The prose is amazing. Performance did not distract from the writing.

No mister nice guy, Cormac McCarthy.

Violence extreme. Cormac McCarthy weaves another tale of man's inhumanity to man.
It's a good chapter of his brand of lawlessness.
Narration was well done.
