Publisher's summary

Nonny Frett understands the meanings of "rock" and "hard place" better than any woman ever born. She's got two mothers, "one deaf-blind and the other four baby steps from flat crazy". She's got two men: her husband, who's easing out the back door; and her best friend, who's laying siege to her heart in her front yard. She has a job that holds her in the city, and she's addicted to a little girl who's stuck deep in the country. To top it off, she has two families: the Fretts, who stole her and raised her right; and the Crabtrees, who lost her and can't forget that they've been done wrong.

In Between, Georgia, population 90, a feud that began the night Nonny was born is escalating, and a random act of violence will set the torch to a 30-year-old stash of highly flammable secrets. This might be just what the town needs, if only Nonny wasn't sitting in the middle of it.

Critic reviews

"Plenty of Southern sass and rueful, charming confidences make this a theatrical and well-paced Southern family drama." (Publishers Weekly)
"Quirky and touching....A climactic ending with perfect story resolution makes this book tidy and uplifting." (Booklist)

Well crafted, engrossing story

If you liked "Gods in Alabama" you'll love "Between, Georgia". Once again, the characters are so well developed, you really feel you know them. The story is engrossing and the humor is sharp and thoroughly enjoyable. The author does a superb job narrating (her voice for the character of Bernice is reminiscent of Vicki Lawrence doing Momma on Carol Burnett!). The story will draw you in right from the start and, like all good books, you'll hate when it finally draws to its satisfying close. Two thumbs up! I anxiously await the next yarn from this talented author.

Good all the way through

Starts off a little slow but once into it takes off. I'll be looking for more novels by this author.

Loved the Deaf Mama...

Where does Between, Georgia rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Definitely in my top 10%. I love Joshilyn Jackson's characters, I love her plots, I love her southern accent which brings her characters to life, and I love the sense of family in her stories. She's definitely one of my favorite authors.

What did you like best about this story?

I especially loved the deaf & blind Mama and how she communicated with such ease with the rest of her family. There was a bit of "Hatfields & McCoys" feel to this story. I was mesmerized for 8 hours straight.

What does Joshilyn Jackson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Definitely the feel of the south in her language & expressions. It's one of my favorite parts of her audiobooks.

If you could rename Between, Georgia, what would you call it?

I love the name. It's part of the intrigue!

Loved it!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Generally, I don't like fiction but this story had interesting characters, a bit of romantic interest ( I can't stand 'romances' either), a complex network of family ties and a few plot twists. Would appeal mostly to females.

The Hatfields and McCoys with a Twist.

I really enjoyed this story and the narration. It is about simple people in a simple town, with not so simple issues. I loved that the author narrated. She did a great job. The characters really came alive as the author/narrator gives them voice. I am not sure why I selected this book, but I did, and I am glad.
