If your dream is big enough, not even your enemies can stop you....
Charlie Trumper's earliest memory is of hearing his grandfather's sales patter from behind his costermonger's barrow. When Grandpa Charlie dies, young Charlie wants nothing more than to follow in his footsteps - his burning ambition is to own a shop that will sell everything: 'The Biggest Barrow in the World'.
Charlie's progress from the teeming streets of Whitechapel to the elegance of Chelsea Terrace is only a few miles as the crow flies. But in Jeffrey Archer's expert hands it becomes an epic journey through the triumphs and disasters of the century, as Charlie follows a thread of love, ambition, and revenge to fulfil the dream his grandfather inspired.

I was in the mood for a sweeping saga, and I knew Jeffery Archer was the perfect author to turn to. It was just the thing for my craving!
You have to know what you are signing up for when you settle into one of his books, there is very little dialogue and so I always feel like I am being told ABOUT a story as opposed to reading a story.. does that make sense?
Some constants about Jeffery Archer’s style:
•Very little dialogue
•More “telling” than “showing”
•Books that feel like a collection of short stories
•Somewhat predictable plots
•Many similarities to past books
But all this is good because if you know precisely what you’re going to get, you won’t be disappointed. I was entertained the entire way through!
I read this book years ago. It was a pleasure hearing it. Narrator John Lee really brought it to life. I've read most of Archer's books, this is one of his best. I promise you'll be hanging on to every word.
"Cor blimey, what a great book!"
Why did this have to end? Such a good story, great characters and twists and turns.
If you like LONDON or the east end, you will love this story from rags to riches and heartache and pain in between
"great stuff "
a good book to listen when driving just keeps going and you never get bored
Only 2nd Mr Archer book listened too, very impressed so far. This one could be a mini series, it all sounds dull, barrow boy does good, but it is a blinking good book, would recommend it.
Another top quality title from Mr Archer. Easy reading with enough of a plot to easily keep one's attention. John Lee exerts a real understanding of the characters and his accents are top notch.....a rarity in my opinion!
Well narrated good j archer story with enough twists to keep you wondering the outcome. well worth the listen
"I couldn't stop listening!!"
I have never read or listened to a Jeffery Archer book before, not thinking I'd enjoy them. How wrong could a person be! The characters came to life as I knew they would with the enigmatic voice of John Lee. He is a master of story telling. The twists and turns of the storyline had me hooked. It was easy to listen to. Even though I knew the good guy would come out on top in the end, I listened with great enthusiasm as the story developed. Archer has now become a writer I'd like to explore further. An excellent book for a holiday read or when people just give you a few hours to sit, relax and listen👍
Yes in a short while as it whiles away the long hours travelling
Clifton Chronicles in a shortened version. Similar plot lines.
"Jeffrey Archer's delivery simply cannot be improve"
As the Crow Flies in amongst the top 5% of my listens to date. One not only has an empathy with the writer, but also in this instance regard for the unexpected elements that make his works unique and demand that you hear them to their completion.
The Clifton Chronicles
John Lee is my favourite performer. Simply unsurpassed.
Yes, but it was not possible.
Yes, a typical Archer story line. If you like Archer you will love this.
The ending is perfect. It is structured like most of Archer's novels. The storyline does overlap a little with a storyline from the Clifton chronicles which at first disappoints but the narrative does recover.
Again the ending.
"A great read "
A fantastic story. Jeffrey Archer is such a good story teller. In to the next book of the author!!
