I found the book dragged a bit at times but there were several laugh out loud moments that made up for it. I preferred Rachel's Holiday but still consider this a very good book.
I love the author's writing style.
I am a total audiobook addict! I travel quite a bit for work and listen to them while I drive. Always searching for a good author to follow
Yes, I loved the story. I liked how it was 3 parts. I found it happy, sad, funny, surprising and just a fantastic listen
I loved the ending
No I haven't, she was lovely to listen to
Yes, I was hooked after the first 5 minutes
Listen to this book. It was an emotional roller coaster, I laughed out loud, I cried, I got mad, but most of all I loved the story.
I love learning about all the Walsh girls.
I loved this story. It was funny and of course sad at the same time. Caroline Lennon has a wonderful story voice and truly kept me entertained throughout.
So many... but loved Helen, Jacquie and of course Anna
For me - it was Anna. I loved her thought process and humour through her adversity. Very human and real
Highly recommend this story.
"Didn't know what I was letting myself in for"
What a book! I can honestly say I have not enjoyed a book this much since I can't remember when. The book opens up with Anna Walsh, who is the main character of this book, recovering from some kind of episode, for want of a better word (I won't spoil this for you by telling you what kind of episode), in Ireland with her family. It is both sad and hilarious at the same time and every emotion you have ever felt comes spilling out with her in everything she does from work to play, from despair to acceptance from Ireland to New York. If you want a really good book that you will recommend to all your book-loving friends then this is the one for you. It has had me laughing until I thought my sides would split and tears of laughter were carousing down my face as well as crying soon after with tears of sadness spilling down my face. Just an amazing book and I loved every word, sentence and paragraph and couldn't wait to hear more and now I am really sad that I have finished reading it.
"An absorbing read"
I was not at all sure I would like this book. It is not my sort of book really, but I thought I would try it as I didn't want to get stuck in a rut.
Without going into any of the story- the other reviewers have done that well enough- I would just say that this is an absorbing book that never quite went where I expected. If Chick Lit is not your thing give it a go anyway- it draws you down to the deepest of human emotions and yet is not indulgent.
"There certainly is something out there!"
This book kept me gripped from beginning to end. Even though it split into three parts each part is perfectly crafted to draw you along. I was drawn into firstly how did she end up like that and then is there really anything out there. This book is very funny and everyone will think did she model Anna's mum on my mum - because i certainly did. It's a good, wholesome, funny read well worth the time.
This was the first of Marian Key's books that I have listened to and I am not much of a chic lit reader so approached it with slight trediation. It was a really good listen. The reader has a pleasant voice though I recognised it from The Archers and that was a bit disconcerting to start with, the story is gently sad but engaging with well constructed characters. I'll try some more of her books.
True to form Marian Keyes provides yet another charming episode in the lives of the five Walsh sisters and their hilarious parents. Spread all over the world they all appear here to support their sister who is broken physically and emotionally. Entertaining and funny yet also touching and sad. This novel will have you wanting to learn more about the goings on of the Walsh family.
"Anybody out there?"
For me,this book was rather spoilt by the heavy use of the F-word. Totally unnecessary, and believe it or not certainly not in common usage in my life. I have felt like wiping it off but will persevere to the end.
"Completely BRILLIANT!! :0)"
I read this book a number of years ago & it was just as good in audio, hooked!!
I am a spiritualist and loved the various deep reference to this topic.
The book is approached in a way that leaves you desperate to want to know more. Donna is a fabulous writer in my opinion that brings the characters to life and writes in a truly moving style!!
The narrator was fabulous!! The only thing I felt was the speed was just a touch too fast. When I slowed down the speed it was just alittle too slow.
I would recommend to both read and listen to this book!! Gripped both times :0)
"Beautifully written and narrated, but . . . . . ."
Probably not. I really like Marian Keyes, but this book dragged for me. There is only so much that you can do with the main subject issue (can't say more without a spoiler) and there simply wasn't enough else going on. There were laughs and because it was the Walsh's, Marian's usual high standard of writing and it was well narrated, I stuck with it. However, sadly in the last couple of chapters, when it was clear there was no great twist to come, I really looked forward to it being finished (not ideal).
Probably the interjections from Mammy Walsh.
Hmmm, probably not!
My first Marian Keyes book. I enjoyed listening and am keen to try more from this author as I think she is a good writer. She has a good sense of irish humour running through the novel and I like the little quirkiness of the family back home!
"Great Story line"
Loved the story, it unfolded well but the accents of the narrator were a touch annoying.
