This was a good book -- funny and sad. It wasn't the deepest book but this was very entertaining. But the narrator just made the book live giving it more depth than maybe it really had. The narrator had a great sense of comic timing and managed to create different voices for the characters seamlessly without it being schticky. Good story made great by a fabulous narrator. I'll actually look for more books narrated by her and no, this is not her mother!
Loved it highly recommend fantastic narrator interesting story I laughed and had a couple tears great book for holiday or just relaxing
I am a total audiobook addict! I travel quite a bit for work and listen to them while I drive. Always searching for a good author to follow
Yes I would listen to it again
I liked all of them, but Maggie was the best
This was a great story about another one of the Walsh girls. I just love these stories :)
Absolutely! I'm a big fan of Keyes' work. Halligan however had a hard time with different American accents, it kind of pulled me out of the story at times.
It was a well-developed story with a main character you could relate to, and while I enjoyed the book, it was not my favorite of hers.
Maybe if there are no American characters in the story. Maybe if the characters are all Irish.
I loved how Keyes developed the character of Maggie Walsh. As everyone has written her off as the good girl of the family who does everything right, Keyes slowly pulls back the layers of her past to reveal much greater depth to this woman. I thought her a bit scattered and childish in certain parts that seemed uncharacteristic, but could attribute that to anyone going through a life crisis, as this character certainly was. Overall a fun read.
This is a wonderful tale of an Irish girl who has always done the right thing until her marriage hits the rocks and she loses all sense of where she belongs. Suddenly and uncharacteristically she decides to go and visit a friend in Los Angeles who is a struggling scriptwriter. The wonderful blend of Irish humour against Los Angeles values, the face lifts the rules of friendships and the hilarious characters make this story really enjoyable. I love the way the author has managed to bring both Irish and American humour to her story. Excellent Narrator - give it a try!
"LA Angels, review"
In this book we meet sensable Maggie who has done the right things all her life. She is a prime example of a good daughter, sister and wife. The book starts when Maggie leaves her husband of 9 years because she finds out he's been seeing another woman. After a few months of deep depression, she goes to LA to live with her scrip writer friend Emily for amonth. The glamorous city teaches Maggie a lot about life and herself. She certainly discovers that the glory glitter and glamour of LA only is a shiny surface and that the capital of movie stars perhaps isn't all that it's cracked up to be. In true Marian Keyes style, we get to hear about all the changes Maggie goes through as well as her past which explains her current situation. A past which reveals that Maggie hasn't always been little miss perfect.
This book, like most of Marian Keyes' written work, is full of humour, good language and at times, tears.A relaxing, entertaining read perfect for the summer.
Decent story, with a good narrator and a satisfying ending, but I could have done without all the comments about "lezzers".
"Very funny LA observations..."
Funny - clear - thoughtful
Observations about LA life
Brought this as I was going to LA for a few weeks and thought it would be fun to listen to a story based in the city I was visiting. It was continually funny, thoughtful and showed the real differences between America and Ireland/Uk.... thank you for a great listen
"A little different from I was xpecting"
I didn't listen to it all . Maybe the narrator was new to me..
Her books would capture me in a few chapters , in kept hopping it would. But that didn't happen .
