Twenty-one year-old Harriet, a newly qualified X-ray technician earning a coveted male wage, ignores her father's warning that "only fools, Bohemians and tarts live in Kings Cross" and moves into Mrs. Delvecchio Schwartz's rooming house. There she discovers that Mrs. Delvecchio Schwartz has more sources of income than rents. She casts horoscopes, reads tarot cards, and gazes into her crystal ball...far more profitable! But it is mute four-year-old Flo, her mother's medium and beloved angel puss, who captures Harriet's heart.

"A ripping read, big in spirit, heart and charm...a delicious and occasionally tender romp." (The Age)
"Harriet is unforgettable." (West Australian)
"Irreverent, moving and irascibly funny." (Sydney Morning Herald)
entertaining, fantastic, interesting
One of the stand out moments was when mild, meek, Harriet walloped a man in the face.
I would listen to Ms Jones again, anytime.
The anguish a friend feels when they are powerless to help another.
This is THE BEST I have listened to by far !
Absolutely Harriet Percel, such a strong, fiesty, fearless young woman - she stood up for herself ,which was not an easy thing in the 1960's !
I cannot choose a favorite. Kellie Jones is THE BEST narrator ever !! She is bloody fantastic ! Such a brilliant Aussie voice, with clear, easy to listen to tone and pronounciation.
Mrs Delvikio-Schwartz. A clever, mystical, magical 'don't give a stuff what you think of me' ....yet kind and loving type.
BUY THIS BOOK !!! especially if you are like me and find American and Brittish accents hard to get used to. I just adore everything about this story, I laughed out loud often, yet was taken by the tenderness of the story also. It is a real mystery and the end is bloody unpredictable !!
Probably not, usually don't read or listen to books a second time
The characters of the Cross (Kings Cross)
Was not happy with the narrator, she got a few pronunciations incorrect which spoilt it, otherwise told by a young girl about a young girl, so that was fitting,
I have been a fan since "The Thornbirds" I loved the Masters of Rome series. Angel Puss was very different & had a great surprise ending. Kellie Jones was fabulous in her narration.
thanks for a great book to listen to while I traveled
This novel won't be everyone's cup of tea, but it does have some very unusual characters in it that become more and more loveable as the book progresses. I liked the characters, and in the end, the story a lot.
