Publisher's summary

Patrick D. Smith here tells the story of three generations of the MacIveys, a Florida family who battle the hardships of the frontier to rise from a dirt-poor Cracker life to the wealth and standing of real estate tycoons. The story opens in 1858, when Tobias MacIvey arrives in the Florida wilderness to start a new life, and ends in 1968 with Solomon MacIvey, who realizes that the land has been exploited far beyond human need. Between is a sweeping story rich in Florida history.

A best-selling novel of Florida historical fiction, A Land Remembered was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize and received the state’s highest literary award from the Florida Historical Society, the 1986 Tebeau Prize for the Most Outstanding Florida Historical novel.

Great story & kept wanting me to listen more~

My husband recommended this book as he grew up in Florida and loves history so it was neat to hear of places we have been to and learn about areas that are not as prominent. I enjoyed this book so much that I would listen to it often. I highly recommend this book as the narrator keeps you engaged the entire time.

Get ready for a story that will a trip back in time in Florida

This audio book was read with entertaining interpretation of the characters. It was a time when there were many hardships to endured and joy seemed real but fleeting. I really enjoyed the local references where I live. For me - hard to put down.

I don’t finish many books I start this is one I couldn’t wait to keep listening to. Even the people that destroyed our state know what they did was wrong.
