Smith here tells the story of three generations of the MacIveys, a Florida family who battle the hardships of the frontier to rise from a dirt-poor Cracker life to the wealth and standing of real estate tycoons. The most famous Florida novel

What made the experience of listening to A Land Remembered the most enjoyable?

George Guidall reading Land Remembered is an experience not to be missed. In our library we do book discussions of Land Remembered every few years and everybody likes the book. The most recent one was a month ago which had 30 attendees and everyone raved about the book....not a dissenter among them. One local professional Florida storyteller tells me that there never would have been a romance the likes of which keep the Seminoles in the story. We didn't care. This is a book to give new Florida arrivals to learn a little bit about the history of Florida of the last 150 years.

A must read for every Floridian or nature lover.

Loved it. I have read this book in the past and now with a kid audiobooks help fill the void for my lack of reading time. The Narrator was superb.

Didn't want it to end...

I am from the area of Florida where the story takes place so I was especially interested in this audiobook. I love the narrator so that is always a plus - he is my all time favorite. But the story drew me in and I began to notice the land around me. I had a chance to drive across the state of Florida while listening and for the first time I really looked at the landscape and imagined how hard it must have been for the early pioneers. I saw a new Florida landscape and was mesmerized by it. I also learned the where the term "Cracker" - not derogatory at all but a nod to the skill of early cowhands and drovers. Really enjoyed listening and didn't want it to end. May have been a bit preachy right at the end but a true message. We have destroyed our river of grass and are suffering consequences.

Beautiful story

Could not stop listening, I’m a Floridian and I could so relate to towns, landscapes, weather, animals, etc. it is a story that you will get completely engaged in each character and their personalities. I wish there were more writings like this one about families and generations. Especially good people that respected others, and kept their word without paper.
